Are the first two seasons underrated?

We were not asked to say why :rookie:

The OP'er expressed his/her opinion with which we either agreed or not.

To me, S.1 is great becasue we're introduced to the crew and see the close bonds between them forming in dynamics (+ I love TCW).

S.2 is great because stage one of the bonds forming passes and now there's stage 2 - the crew acts as one team more consciously and strenthens their bonds.

Exactly why I like the show so much. Each season showed growth in relationships and experience.

yeah but neither one of you have said why, or do you just plan on using a word to define a word.

honeybee didn't "use a word to define a word" in the post above to which we alluded...not sure what you mean here.

One other way of looking at the first season is to compare it to other first season Trek shows. All of them took a awhile to find their footing. I mean TNG and DS9 were really struggling their first years, though they have good episodes here and there. I just caught a rerun of "Detained" and thought it was pretty darn good for a first season episode. Yes, it's got the classic Trek heavy-handed metaphor going on, but that's what they were going for.

Silent Enemy is a little strange - it's "A" plot turned out very scary and doesn't quite cohere with the "B" Malcolm plot about his birthday. But I almost wonder if the writer didn't realize how scary the "A" plot was going to be, given that other shows never did creepy quite as well. It seems like a very first season kind of issue.

I liked Silent Enemy--you're right, Honeybee, it was a First Season lesson for the new crew. First Contact can go so many ways; not always friendly, and not always on our terms. It gave them the opportunity to turn back, then learn they didn't have to run home.

I think Bormanis put those two different plotlines together on purpose - and that's what I find especially great about Silent Enemy. Imo, that perfectly illustrates what living on a starship feels like -- a constant danger, through which the sprouts of normal Human life try to break through anyway.
I like the way the ep is "saturated" with events and well-presented characterization, still not being "excessive".
