It seemed Worf admired and respected Captain Kirk even though the two never met (with the exception of "The Return" novel")
In "Trails and tribble-ations", Worf said "it would be a great honour to meet him" and Worf seemed very protective about Kirk and threatening to the old guy who went back in time to kill Kirk
Why did Worf admire Kirk? Is it cause of what Kirk did in Star Trek VI?
I don't see why Worf would like Kirk, cause Kirk killed several Klingons in Star Trek III and was hated by the Klingon empire for a long time
Plus, in "The Return", Kirk beats the shit out of Worf with a Klingon sword and ties him to a tree stump

Hi Ali88. Kirk was admired and hated by the Klingons. Worfs admiration for Kirk came from the the stories that Worf probably heard about Kirk, historical record, songs that included battles aginst or with Kirk, etc. I have no doubt that Colonel Worf (Worf's grandfather) may have told stories of Kirk to young Worf growing up. | Quote | In 2267, following the breakdown of peace talks between the Federation and the Klingon Empire, the first Federation-Klingon War broke out. The neutral planet of Organia, a strategic position between the two powers, became a political hotspot between the Empire and the Federation. Kor's invasion force on Organia
On stardate 3102.7, Commander Kor led a battalion of five hundred Klingon soldiers in an invasion and occupation of Organia, where he briefly became their military governor. As governor, Kor ruthlessly maintained order on the planet, ruling with an iron fist by maintaining a stringent list of rules, any violation of which was punishable by death. Unknown to Kor at the time, Captain Kirk and Commander Spock, both posing as Organians, were among the subjugated. The two Starfleet officers futilely mounted a series of guerrilla attacks against Kor and his army. Meanwhile, in orbit around Organia, the Klingon and Federation fleets faced each other in battle. Captain Kor (2269)
Once the hostilities between the two began to reach its climax, all ships suddenly and mysteriously became paralyzed and all weapons became superheated and temporarily rendered useless. Unknown to both sides at the time, the Organians were in fact an advanced non-corporeal species, despite their primitive way of life. As quickly as it started, the Organians effectively ended the occupation, the war, and Kor's governorship. (TOS: "Errand of Mercy") The Organians would continue to promote peace between the two powers by imposing the Organian Peace Treaty. (TOS: "The Trouble with Tribbles") |
Not to mention Kor's feelings towards Kirk | Quote | | Plus, in "The Return", Kirk beats the shit out of Worf with a Klingon sword and ties him to a tree stump |
You have forgotten this explanation that I gave to you back in April. Additionally, Kirk was brainwashed by a female Romulan Officer who was in charge of an unofficial Romulan Fleet that was in an alliance with the Borg: | Quote (Ali88 @ April 28 2009, 10:17 am) | In Star Trek: Generations, Picard was the only TNG crew member who Kirk met, he never ever met Data
Data met McCoy, Spock and Scotty in TNG but he never met Kirk
I always wanted to see Kirk meet Data, I wonder what he would have thought of androids
Well we'll never know, thanks to the lazy writing of TNG writers
Did Kirk and Data meet in William Shatner's novel "The Return"?
Is it also true in "The Return", Kirk confronts Worf and beats the shit out of him? |
Yes Kirk and Data meet in "the Return". The first time they met, Kirk was brainwashed by Commander Salatrel and Kirk immobilized ?LaForge and Data. Kirk tried to get Data to give him Picard's location. When Kirk was freed from his brainwashing, he evaluated Data. He found it disturbing to see an android exhibiting emotions, but he accepted it. Kirk had no problems working with Data on board **novel spoiler alert** the USS Enterpirse -Defiant Class starship. ? ? .The USS Monitor was renamed the USS Enterprise for the substantial refit of the Monitor with Borg transwarp drive and the noteworthy mission that Kirk, Picard, Spock, Riker, data, and crew was sent to go on. As far as the fight between Kirk and Worf, Kirk did beat Worf with a Bat'telh. Not only did Kirk beat him, he humiliated Worf by using the flat part of the Bat'telh to knock out Worf and tie him up to a tree stump. Worf considered it the ultimate act of mockery. What a teacher did when instructing a novice. But out of fairness to Worf, I think Commander Salatrel programmed these fighting techniques into Kirk using the brainwashing method. Kirk has already prove that he can kick Klingon butt, but with the additional fighting techniques that Kirk received, Worf did not stand a chance.

Kirk had courage and didn't fear death; in some ways, he might have seemed almost Klingon to Worf. (that's just my opinion)

I can sum it up in one sentence. Respect for a great and honorable warrior

It would've been interesting if they could've made the connection between Colonel Worf and TNG/DS9, even if it would've been just a one-liner.

| Quote | | Colonel Worf was played by Michael Dorn, who also played the 24th century Starfleet officer Worf. Although it was never confirmed on screen, Dorn and other film personnel involved in the making of Star Trek VI (including Leonard Nimoy) indicated that Colonel Worf was intended to be the grandfather of his Next Generation namesake. |

Also lets remember that Worf attended Star Fleet Academy, where Kirk is a hero and his missions and tactics both in war and in peace are legendary. Much of that would have rubbed off on Worf
