A:  Love is a universal force.  You can't help who you fall in love with.

B:  There are gay characters all throughout Star trek if you care to actually look.

C:  You can't have all the rights of a institution without the name.  Thats like going back to pre civil war south and saying 'okay you guys you can have all the rights we do but your still not free.'

D:  no one, and I mean no one, says your values don't matter but at the same time aren't you pushing your values in everyones face.

E:  Marriage is a ritual in which two people decide to devote their lives to each other.  If you look in the history of civilization Jews and Later Christians were the ones that added man and woman.  Other past cultlres thought nothing of two of the same sexes being married as long as men had children to pass on their family name.

I am a heterosexual male.  I have good freinds on both sides of the proverbial fence.  Gene's dream was a vision of the future where we all could live together as equals with all the same rights and freedoms.  We al;l must understand that we are diffwerent cultures, different values, different outlooks.  Rather than force the differences we must understand that tolerance, understanding, and standing by each other and defending all our rights together will only make us stronger as a people.  We are all created equal, you don't like it  "Go to Romulus!!"

The Ferengi shall pay!!

Who wants to see all this homosexuality on STAR TREK?
Nobody wants that. Fans like their heroes to be real
men - and their damsels in distress to be real women!
Even Sulu has a daughter. It's best STAR TREK sticks
to what it knows: Hunks chasing hot chicks in cheezy body
makeup and micro-miniskirts. Now THAT'S entertainment!

Ignorance and intolerance are illogical.

First of all, I’m not a lesbian but I do think that this is a choice that we can’t make for other people. Gene Roddenberry’s dream was for all of us to live in peace and to accept each other no matter if we were a different race or color etc. but I like to think that this includes homosexuality. Now I’ve heard a lot of talk about how everything started with Adam and Eve, and technically, it did start out something like that (can’t really say I’m religious that much) but none the less with a male and a female [insert species name here] because that’s how genetics work for our race. This just became a way of life for people, everyone did it, and no one bothered to change anything. But then someone decided to try something different, then it just started to catch on (whether by choice or by genetics). So what! It’s not hurting anybody. Is it? I’m not saying that others have to just love the whole idea and think that it’s great, it wouldn’t be human. But if an alien species walked up to you right now and it happened to be (in our terms) “homosexual” what would you do? Would you constantly bash them because of their own way of life? I know I wouldn’t because it doesn’t concern me. And that’s how I think about this situation now (not to offend anyone, that is). This is how I see the world, and I'm only twelve.

Of course, there is also the fact that we as a human race can only continue if we have male/female relationships...

Homosexuality is not at all illogical in an overpopulated world.

DADT doesn't quite mesh with the values of the Federation or Star Fleet.

Quote (OtakuJo @ Aug. 06 2009, 11:36 am)Quote (exodus201 @ Aug. 06 2009, 9:49 am)The relationship in "Rejoined" was still "forbidden".
Course it was. But that doesn't really have anything to do with the point I was making which is that the whole theme of the episode was forced as well as the relationship itself and not very well presented. Which is one of the reason that it is one of my two least fav. episodes of DS9.
That's just personal opinion based on your point of view.

Duh. Of course it is. Every single assessment that every single person here makes of every single episode is "opinion based on point of view". No less valid for that.

Although to be honest Dax and Whatsisface (darrell from Meridian) had no chemistry either. So the assessment is likely to have nothing to do with homosexuality == my personal opinion on the matter of homosexuality is that whatever is fine == and more to do with Terry Farrell should've steered away from doing romance scenes.

The element of it being forced was not to do with gay, straight, bi whatever -- but more to do with Dax and Kahn having zero chemistry on screen. Perhaps with two better actors it would have worked.

I doubt that with that kind of attitude 2lakes would get within a hundred yards of a "real woman".

I was joking, ServalanFan? Oh .... OH!!!
Yes, OtakuJo, I was only joking around.
and I've been within a hundred yards of
a "real woman," as well. She never got
within a hundred yards of a STAR TREK
episode and liked it that way. I still dream
about her, sometimes. She used to wear
this really short nightie ...
