I just started rewatching this on DVD.  Essentially, it was a Batman series without Batman. Or Robin. Or the Joker or any of the cool villians... Oh, yeah, and Harley Quinn was a criminal mastermind...

And the three female protagonists spent a lot of time sitting outside their clocktower getting all philosophical and painting each other toenails... or something.

Yeah, I remember that one. I found "The Huntress" (Ashley Scott) very appealing. ;) And Dina Meyer (Batgirl) went on to play Romulan sub-commander Danotra in Nemesis. I thought she was a good looking Romulan woman. :D

I seen maybe 2-3 eps cause I don't care too much for comics based tv/movies...

I love comics and movies/shows based on them. But they can be good or bad regardless they're of a genre I tend to like, and this show sucked.

You can get the whole series on DVD for about $30 at Target.

:logical:

That's a high price for garbage. Some shows are cancelled unfairly...some are. This is the latter.

Actually, I just got done watching all 11 episodes on DVD, and it wasn't that bad of a series, actually.

I think that the WB was expecting another "Smallville", and didn't get what they wanted (either in terms of creativity or ratings).

Still, the characters and their interactions were kind of interesting.

It's too bad they didn't do the show now because it mught have lasted a little longer. The only problems that I had that the stories were to slow, and the whole thing with Barbara Gordon - Why the hell did the writers make her crippled?

I kind of liked the show and would have liked to see it continue. I agree the show got off to a slow start, but if given a bit more time could have picked up in the story department.

Not sure if it would fair better now if it were released today. More people are certainly into the darker/gritty mood the show had. Interest in superheroes sort of comes and goes where the mainstream is concerned though. Vampires and other similar fantasy elements are more popular right now.

He played a villian in this awful show called "Black Scorpion"... which ran on the Skiffy Channel for one season.  Frank Gorshin also had a role.

Actually i remember it well, they thought they could do with BATMAN what they did with SUPERMAN in SMALLVILLE and do a version that had no comic book elements in it, but it realy did not work as well, i am a rabid BatMan fan from the beginning - i knew about BatMan LONG before i had heard of Star Trek (or so it seems,i became aware of Star Trek in the late 60s) so i was keen to see Birds Of Prey.

Act One of the pilot caught my attention but Ashley Scott as The Huntress seemed to be the odd one out in the group, Dina Meyer was doing the best she could but the Villains were poor and Huntress was brattier than she was edgy.

The producers wanted to baise it in a comic book world without the comic book trappings and ultimately the audience felt let down : they were promised in the promotional ads a BatMan World series and got one that skirted around the edges of it.

It should have got another season, it should have been turned over to someone who knew what the viewers wanted, not just what the producers were comfortable with.

Also, starbase63 is right, The Joker shooting Barbara is clearly lifted from 'The Killing Joke' and yes he is quite right : there was a strong suggestion that he Raped her and photographed it in part of a scheme to drive her father insane.
In the comics after she was paralysed by the gun shot she became the computer expert The Oracle just as she was in the series.
Again it had a good basis but they kept skirting around Mask and Cape material : Huntress said early on she didn't like all that stuff - because the people who made the show didn't like it.

I believe we would for the most part agree it was a great idea, that while it didn't net the results we wanted was at the very least worth a try.
