... but it's a bit heard to find keywords to search for it.

The Bajoran wormhole was discovered at that point yes? They had no knowledge of the dominion at that point. Why not head to the wormhole and then end up at DS9?

Looks like that journey would have been just as long?

Nope?

I believe that that trip could have been 50 years instead of 70.

Lol, that's a very detailed map you have there.

Well the conclusion around here was that Voyager was about as far from Earth as it was from the Wormhole in the Gamma quadrant.

The question is would you seriously travel between 50 and 70 light years in the wrong direction in the hope that by the time you get there, the "newly" discovered wormhole was still around? I don't think so, it would have to be much closer than that to take the chance.  :logical:

Well, not really, I used the grid there to keep the positioning in tact.

It was a stable wormhole, no? I think they found out in Emissary already that it was stable for millions of years already. No real reason that it would just disappear. I'd take the twenty years or that small chance. The Dominion wasn't yet known at that time.

Is there a border between Borg controlled space and the Dominion on the map?

No idea why the Borg never tried to assimilate Dominion technologies, being able to breed Jem'Hadar and then immediately assimilate them seems like a good thing.

:logical: This assumes that you are correct about it being only 50 LYrs.

The real reason of course would be to keep VOY and DS9 separate shows to the end.

I think that when they finally decided on where the wormhole would be in the gamma quadrant, they overlooked that its gamma end is closer to the caretaker array than its alpha end.

I think it was Yanks who posted a quadrant map, it showed that the Borg transwarp network doesn't go anywhere near the Dominion, I have to go out just now, but maybe if you PM him, he can post the picture.  :)

I'd rather ask why they still kept insisting they were many lifetimes from home when they were clearly in the Beta Quadrant by series end.

"Caretaker" happens after DS9's "Jem Hadar".
Starfleet and Voyager's Starfleet crew were aware of the Dominion, the Maquis at the time did not nor was it a concern for them at the time.  So when Chakotay tells Be'Lanna about the "Dominion" for the first time, it's still holds consistant.

Because as shown on DS9, Changlings remain hidden and can't be detected even by tri-corder.  Borg can't assimilate what they can't find.  Vorta & Jem Hadar are both clones and as we've seen are imperfect, so Borg won't assimilate them either.  Borg can't gain knowledge if they can't assimilate it.

So that makes the Dominion & Borg evenly matched, so they most likely avoid each other until one has the upper hand.  Think of it similar to the treaty the Federation has with the Romulan Star Empire w/ the Nutural Zone.  You don't bother us & we won't bother you.

you're probably right splurk but thyey probably wouldn't have found as many short cuts that way as they did in this. not to mention most of the species in the GQ are supposed to be hostile aren't they? especially to federation vessles.

...or the most logical answer: the show would be over if they got home faster.
