So who's been following the whole Steorn Orbo thing?
Anybody have any particular words of wisdom on this?
I've been following it all since the original Economist advertisement and such back in 2006. It makes no sense, they haven't really released any information. It seems impossible nonsense, breaks the laws of thermodynamics etc.
But it keeps me slightly interested simply because they've been dragging it out for 3 years now! are they just wrong? idiots? or is it just one of the longest hoaxes ever performed?
Why would they bother with the hoax?

Actually there a lot of information avaliable from the Economist magazine and the Irish times Steorn's advertisement in The Economist was intended to attract the attention of scientists to form a "jury" to test the technology. On 1 December 2006, Steorn announced that a jury had been selected and the validation process began in February 2007. Steorn gather a jury of scientist to study his device and In June 2009, the jury announced its unanimous verdict that "Steorn's attempts to demonstrate the claim have not shown the production of energy". Dick Ahlstrom, writing in the Irish Times, concluded from this that the technology did not work. Steorn disputed the jury's findings and said that, due to difficulties in implementing the technology, the jury had only been provided with test data on magnetic effects for study. Why brother with the hoax? why to make money. This is just a variation of the older Hoax dealing with free energy from magnetic systems. Alot of Quack have claim that thru a complex arrangement of mechanical device couple to magnetic field that they are able to get more energy in then they put out, in almost every case this has been proven wrong, either the inventor claim at the last moment that due to mechanical glinches that the device is not performing properly when tested or scientists find device hooked up to additional source of power such as hidden batteries... Example, Edwin V. Gray reportedly develops a Electro-Magnetic Association (EMA) Motor. Skeptical investigation to examine the device was denied (and no neutral or knowledgeable person has tested the device. Skeptics state that the device contains 'depleted' batteries). Supposedly, he unethically raises funding from investors. Gray died in April, 1989, under mysterious circumstances" Magnetic fields are a source of potential energy, you can only drawn energy from them via input of kinetic energy ( That how electrical generator work). The energy exacted either drains the source of mechanical energy or the magnetic field. The power that take out of the system is never more than the energy placed into the system ( actually it can never even equal it due to thermodynamics). It easy to fool the layman with such devices, even Nikola Tesla claimed at one time to beable to create such a device. No prototype was produced. The Serbian American Physicist Inventor wrote: ¿ A departure from known methods - possibility of a "self-acting" engine or machine, inanimate, yet capable, like a living being, of deriving energy from the medium - the ideal way of obtaining motive power. The latest scheme for such free power are now base on zero point energy, energy lockup in the quantum nature of space. According to calculation a single cubic centimeter of space should contain as much energy as 100 nuclear reactors. This goes against what we observe or even what should happen to the curvation of space time according to Relativity, but if such a huge amount of energy is locked into the fabric of space the effect on space time of extracting it would lead to a new big bang as we would be changing the state of the vacuum. check out this links for more on history of such free energy devices http://www.phact.org/e/dennis4.html

Ah well i did not know the results were in on the 2009 jury findings but that is very interesting. They're often changing their website and updating it with stuff, videos and now they've introduced a 'suite of measurement tools' for sale! one item being a usb hall sensor...pretty worthless and the other is a 'magnetic torque measurement system' which without looking in detail would appear to be essentially some kind of device to measure what an orbo were doing.....if you had one. To me it's just so bizarre, i know the general history of perpetual motion machines and fre energy claims but that all made more sense back then. Because people were more gullible and they probably would make some money out of it. But in this day and age are Steorn actually making money from this? surely not? Interesting about the Tesla claim because i never heard about that, i'll go read about that now thanks

Steorn is small time, Check out the Black light power company. Its founder claims that he has discover a lower energy state for the hydrogen atom. This 1/2 energy state would allow Black light equipment to actually access 100 time more energy than from normal chemical process. Problem with this is that if such energy level exist, we would see all the electrons in the universe falling down to fill it. As it Stand Blacklight has claim to raise over 60 million dollars from private investor, and light Steorn has had alot of exposure in various business magazines and News papers. Now Black light power founder Randell L. Mills, has even written his own Unified theory based on his intrepation of quantum field equations, while every physicist that has examine them say Mills equations are incorrect, the fact that most people are ignorant of Quantum theory, it make it easy For Blacklight to continue their efforts to raise funds. They even went to court in England after the Patent office refuse to grant a patent on the ground that according to standard theory it is impossible or even that lacking an actual working model. Basically Black light was granted a patent on the concept.. the Black light Power latest new release claim that they were closing a deal with Akridge Energy, which soon was shown not to exist, they then report that the deal was with Akridge which turn out to be a real estate company and the owner is a partner in Black light !

Thanks for this, very interesting! Perhaps Mills and Dryson are the same person! Since 1991 as well, crazy that anybody is still funding this!

Yeah, the fact is it easy to keep such a scam going. Since they donot actually give out experiment notes that allow any of their experiment to be duplicated by other scientist all the while just giving enought detail on how their experiment produced a burst of energy that if scale up would be several megawatts of power. They keep sending Press release, an in the case of Akridge, the owner invested funds and now in order to see some kind of profit is allowing himself and his company to be mention in order for more investor to get on board. If 60 million dollar has been sunken already into this, it not going to roll over and go away till the funds run out and they finally go into bankurpty.Till then it moving along on it own momentum like Steorn..

You do not go to press first, you do that and you are a phony.
The first thing you do is submit to peer review.

even if you are not, it trends to muddy the waters. Who knows how the whole cold fusion debacle would have played out if they simply submitted a paper for peer review instead of going to the press. The whole scientific community treated cold fusion as a job, and it took 20 years for it to be accepted, alot of it was the University laywers refusing to allow lab notes to release so the original experiment could have been repeated, and it only now is Cold fusion under the title of LENR being honestly look at.
