Just wondering does anything think the Trek shows from DS9 through Enterprise were just for Trek fans only and they next one needs to break out of this mold for it to succeed on TV? This kind of makes me think that 24th Century Trek was for Trek fans and anything set after that would also be for Trek fans only.

Not necessarily...while they had the same formulaic storylines, I don't think the writers intended the new shows to be for Trekkies ONLY. In fact, Voyager was instrumental in bringing many new fans to Star Trek.

"Enterprise" was Paramount's attempt at trying to market a Trek show at non-trekkies and look how well that turned out; they eventually put "Star Trek" back into the opening credits of the show.
