Hey, what PC Trek games work with Vista?

Hello, everyone.

I've been using Windows XP for a while now.  But I'm currently in the process of getting a new laptop that will come equipped with Vista. (Not sure if anyone cares, but I'm heading back to school to get my PhD.) And I'd sure like it if some of my old Trek games would run on it.

Does anyone know if the following games work with Vista?

- Deep Space Nine: The Fallen
- Starfleet Command
- Starfleet Command II: Empires at War
- Deep Space Nine: Dominion Wars

Or should I just ask... Which PC Trek games do work with Vista?

I'd really appreciate any help. Thanks!

Only game we both have is dominion wars and there is no way you can make that work under Vista.

I have installed SFC III, Legacy and Armada II and with some patching they work.

Armada I doesn't work well but can be played. I have SFC I and II but didn't tried to install those. Hope this info is useful?!

As Karzan stated some games will work with patches (Legacy & Armada 2). Anything else probably wont work on a Vista based machine.

It's very common for Legacy NOT  to work on Vista with the correct patches because the patches are only for Vista Basic and Home versions. There are NO patches for the high end versions of Vista.

The other thing you can do is get an external drive with XP installed and run dual operating systems(Vista on the laptop and XP on the external drive)

Karzan?

You're right about Dominion Wars. Actually, I believe the last time I got that to work was with Windows ME. Ha. Not a bad game, but WAY too buggy.

Baxter?

I actually own an external hard drive. And I do plan on keeping it. However, at the moment, it simply serves as my H: folder ... for massive amounts of downloads such as TV shows, movies, etc. So is it hard to format with another OS? And since it doesn't exactly have a drive of its own? How would I boot up the game using the OS from the external hard drive?

Sorry for the deluge of questions, but I'm not a big "techie."

No not really,at least on the same hard drive which may be better actually. once your in XP you would run the game as you normally would in XP.

This: My Webpage will tell you how to install XP on a machine running preinstalled Visa.

Here is how you can run XP as a virtual pc set-up:

My Webpage

With all that said th best best would be to try the program compatibility wizard first.

Another good option if you don't mind having 2 PC's is to keep the old PC  so you can play your games and as a back up PC as well. (which is a good ideal)

Yeah, but you also have Windows 7 right around the corner, and we gotta wonder about the compatibility that will be provided in that one, whether that would play anything seamlessly.  That we'll have to find out.

From what I have heard from a Beta tester it supports Vista and some of XP's programs(mainly the later ones) other than that there is no backwards compatibility in Windows 7(Beta version at any rate)
