Star Trek

I am meeting heaps of new fans on Live Journal as well. So just going on figures here is not very scientific. As I said in my original post (way back when) I said that I meet these people all over the place.

Really, most people DON'T go to fan sites or message boards.  Of my family (who are all Trek fans to some degree), I'm the only one who participates in any kind of "online fandom".  This certainly isn't the first site new fans would join either (I've seen new fans on IMDb, and people who claim to be new fans on the board for the new movie, and trekbbs, etc.), but there are more new fans on other sections of the board.  Not trying to spin this to say that the whole world is coming to Trek because of the new movie, I'm just saying that we really can't know how many new fans there are (heck, we can't even tell how many OLD fans there really are).

 It's still pretty early.  Even if people see and like the movie, it may take them some time to leap into the rest of Trek.  After all, the movie isn't on dvd yet.  It took me years to try out the rest of Star Trek after watching the original Trek and TNG.  For some people, it may take two or three movies to decide they really like the franchise and want to try it out.

 

After the 3rd viewing of the new movie, I was completely hooked.  I actually go teary-eyed with 'spocks' mom' scene only on the 3rd viewing lol
