As I'm reading the book, I can't help thinking, "Boy, it would be so great to see the cast playing this out on the screen." Oh, well.

I'm reading the book, and I'm having the same reaction as you - when are main characters are around - it's like "wow, this is a great story that would have made an amazing fifth season."

However, I do think Martin is a little enamored of the character of Gannet Brooks. I don't find her nearly as interesting as he does. I haven't finished the book yet, but I'm loving the parts with the main crew.

Till now they've used Gannet Brooks to represent "what Earth knows", with the added little bit of inside info she gets from her Source. But I didn't find that aspect that interesting either.

Yeah, I do see her as a plot device, but in "The Romulan War" so far she seems to appear more in the book than Archer, Trip or T'Pol - let alone Malcolm, Hoshi, Travis or Phlox.

The Romulan Wars is absolutely fantastic! Got it yesterday, 1/2 way through. Hope to be done on Saturday or Sunday. I envy the patience for any of you out there who are taking your time. Trying to go at it at warp 5. Anyway, there are sooooo many references to the other shows. I think MM could give the writing staff of ENT season 4 a run for their money. These three books are like season 5. I might be done if I wasn't re-reading to cast characters and format the story into letterbox. Hope you are all enjoying it. Please let me know when you're finished, because I would really like to talk about the story, spoilers and all.

I am taking my time reading, but once people finish and want to discuss it, put a big SPOILER warning in the subject so those of us still reading will stay out of the thread.

I see the cast in every scene in which their characters appear. Makes me sadder that there was no Season 5 (and more). Though I doubt it, I wonder if the cast has read them. I suspect they're aware of them, as their pictures are used on the covers.

Okay, I'm not done yet, Middleman. But so far, the TnT stuff (which is a small portion of the book) seems very promising. I'll keep you posted, but it seems that Martin is a TnT shipper, even if that isn't his main focus.

Thanks Honeybee. Trip & T'Pol's romance is part of Trek canon so there is no getting away from it; they have to be part of the story. Even more so after TGTMD and KM brought them closer together than the TV series did. I like what I saw in the few chapter's I've read so far. "It's good for the soul."
