Not that it matters but what race was Captain Robau supposed to be? I thought he looked like he was from the middle east, which to me was cool because Star Trek was always ahead of the curve with race relations. I mean at the height of the cold war TOS added Chekov to show in the future Russians aren't the bad guys anymore. In today's climate in a post 9-11 world Robau is the same example as I gave for Chekov.

I recently heard somewhere that Robau was not from the middle east but from Cuba.

The actor Anthony Quinn played characters from just about every continent on Earth. That's where the song 'Quinn, The Eskimo' comes from. My brother-in-law has been asked if he is Australian Aboriginal, South American, Native American, Greek, and Italian. Some folks just look international...LOL

Actually, both are correct.

Robau is of Middle-Eastern decent and born in Cuba.

To clear up one thing: the actor ISN'T from the Middle East. He's (south) Asian! His parents are from Pakistan.

/ What makes anyone think Khan is Indian? All they ever said was he was definitely a Sikh, so he could've been been from Mexico for all we know. :)

Pakistan is apparently considered part of the Middle East now, but even then, he was California born and raised...

Try telling a Pakistani that!

Seriously, they'd get offended at being called Middle Eastern/Arab. Muslims outside of the Middle East tend to look down their noses at them.

What makes anyone think Khan is Indian?

Khan Noonian 'Singh'.
Singh is a common surname in India.

It's a common surname in England too. Especially in the Midlands.

The character is supposed to be Cuban, I believe, but the actor who played him is of mid-eastern descent.

You know, it's like how a Mexican actor is famous for playing Trek's great Indian villain...

;)

:logical:

Or a Spanish person (Antonio Bandaras) playing an Arab (The 13th Warrior). Which, incidentally, was a good movie. I thought Bandaras did a good job. ¿
