WELL,

It is even possible that Nero and Spock Prime travelled in the past of an alternate timeline, a timeline ALREADY different from the Prime Continuum.
So KIRK II is a "different" Kirk by default, from the beginning.

I mean, that would explain changes in the Enterprise and so on.

Just my theory.

I think Pine's performance and characterisation of terrific

But not awesome...

Only The Shat is awesome as Kirk.

no it doesn't explain crap. How is Nero changing events in the 23rd century related to any of the so-called changes that happened in Enterprise and the 22nd century. Your theory is flawed big time.

Dare I ask about this "Tuppertrek?" Does it have anything to do with re-usuable plastic storage containers?

I think new kirk`s promotion to captain in day is out of place, it`s like if a soldier would stop a tank from destroying a command post of sort, and is awarded command of his platoon.

This has really not been thought out, he did deserve a medal of some sort, but I can`t believe that they gave command of a prise ship to a cadet just as he walk out of the academy, I don`t care who he is , it make no sense, a simple 5 years later, in sub tittle would have made all the difference in making Kirk take over the Enterprise.

Again a other weak part of script, or editing.

Was Kirk's promotion to captaincy realistic? No.
Nothing in STAR TREK was, though. Nothing. But I'll bite ...
many promotions in, reality, are politically motivated. And
many more are overlooked for promotion, for political reasons.
STARFLEET, according to Gene Roddenberry's own desires, is NOT
a military organization! It's more a meritocrasy, if anything.
And I'll put it another way: What in any STAR TREK show or movie
was ever REALISTIC? Shit, characters regularly die in this franchise,
just to show up later. Kirk's promotion is the least of these evils.
