I agree that the BSG effect has no place in this debate what so ever. But didn't you say they (SW and ST effect) looked the same a few pages back but you just don't care that they do...

Trek has used recycled footage in movies yet i dont see people getting their panties in a bunch over that. Why do people freak out when someone tries to incorporate something that was actually cool in star wars into star trek? |
Yup. pretty much.

So you are agreeing with me and yourself Well maybe that is a little progress...Your second point was also addressed way back. As another poster said using your own recycled footage is one thing but ripping off another franchises is completely different.

I'd disagree that it's a ripping-off of anything, as it's such a generic special effect. Going from nothing to faster than light suddenly would I imagine look very much like it did, with a ship suddenly blipping into the distance; there's only a finite number of ways you can portray this without very strange additional effects, and the fact that it resembles a different sci-fi franchise shouldn't be anymore surprising than the fact that phaser shots look similar to those of generic sci-fi ray guns from old 50s B-movies - no-one was ripping off anyone, there's only so many ways a ray gun effect can be portrayed before they start bearing similarities, just as there's only so many ways to depict sudden faster than light acceleration.
To be honest, I doubt that the SFX people ever gave the matter much consideration.

I don't have a problem at all with the warp-jump in the film. I happen to like it a lot-and the sound effect with it, that, in a theater, REALLY hits you. Like the transporter, which I feel was done uniquely(And this is of course a key adaptation over time)it's a cool part of the effects, and only adds to the cool-factor of the effects. And the warpspace effect I got used to, and like, though, I STILL like my good old stars-by-at warp, and pow-flash that TNG began....Oh, might as well add here, I found the ST:TMP warp-entry a nice effect among the TOS films, in fact, the best one probably.
