I'd rather the movie had been created the way Star Trek Phase II has.

The movie has so many things wrong with it you make a book!

Agreed, and what about the horrible job they did with Quinto's Spock, he's soft spoken and ?confused
you wouldn't believe he's a Commander,
and dosen't Vulcans have a gold yellow skin color, the Spock in the movie had a california sun tan,
and Vulcan's suppose to have green blood, I ?remember his blood being pretty red when he got into a fight as a kid and was bleeding..
This movie sure disgraces TOS.

his blood was green, the blood on his lip was green and the bruise forming on his face had a green tinge to it

and have you seen the planet Vulcan as they show it? it's a desert like place with a lot of sun....so of course Spock would have a tan. If anything he would probably have been much darker

Unless the Vulcans are heavily clothed (robes, hoods) the majority of the time they are outside, as was established in Trek III, IV, and even in this movie to some extent.

sure. But living in such a place with so much sun it's no big shock that he would have a tan

though if their blood is green I wonder what other differences they would have. If they blush it should be green right? Should their skin have a slight green tint to it? Should the little veins in their eyes be green?  I know that's silly stuff but I always think about differences like that

This is not Star Trek As We Know It, Jim. It is something that is... obscene. It is the Mirror Universe Star Trek - and it permeates our current entertainment industry.

(* If the Romulans had travelled back 184 years - why didn't they simply destroy the errant star, in this time period, BEFORE it went nova? They had the ship; the knowledge; the "Red Matter"; and Spock's assistance. Yet they go for "revenge" instead??? Why? The star hadn't destroyed Romulus yet - they could EASILY have prevented it!;)

Well they said "This ain't your Daddy's Star Trek." At least they got something right. :p

I agree, what is this new fascination Hollywood has with making every scifi/comic book movie dark and melancholy.

The whole plot was beyond suspended disbelief. :whatthe:

For the record, DocNoc and BenJGrimm are circle-jerk defectors from TrekSpace who were banned from that site after making asses of themselves repeatedly.

We are already acquainted.

Yeah, that was for the BROKEN (LYING) record at any rate. Now, as to the TRUTH, (something ol' Wkdyngtroll here has serious trouble with) We were indeed BANNED from Trekspace. (Btw, which IS IT; "defectors" or "banned?" How can it be both?

I guess if you define "making asses" of ourselves (something ol' Wkdygtroll here could teach MANY semesters on) as expressing dissenting opinions about the new movie (i.e. disliking it, and saying so) then, YES! I guess we're guilty as charged! We NEVER broke any stated guidelines, and NEVER flamed (OR, jerked any circles for that matter) We NEVER used abusive language, nor did we EVER attack ANYONE! We simply committed the unforgivable SIN of being vocal about our opposition to the new movie, in the year(s) + leading up to it, and after it's release last month. GASP!

You see, ol' Wkdyngtroll here (or, as I fondly know him/her; the CONSONANT CRUSADER) is one of those who simply CANNOT abide the fact that there are a few of us out here who do not like the new movie! That kind of intolerance has been and IS NOW, unfortunately, the order of the day over at Trekspace. It's sad, because I was quite friendly with many of the nice folks over there, and now have no way of contacting them, because of the unjust ban! All of this is easily verifiable.

Oh, and actually, Wkkkgsgdsjsfdsftroll; we were banned TWICE! Along with a few others whose only crime was not liking the new movie. One, lady, in fact; was banned just for joining a site that a few of us started (as a place where we could be free to speak our minds about the new movie in any way we choose) even though she had NEVER engaged in arguments about the movie on Trekspace.

I came back to THIS site; because I wanted to enjoy good, reasonable and intelligent discussions about Trek (not exclusively the new movie, other Trek topics as well) with other fans, whether we see eye to eye or not. ?

I have no interest in getting into a battle of wits with an unarmed person. Other than defending myself and my friend, by setting the record straight, and correcting the LIES spewed forth by a TROLL who lives to hurl lame on liners at ANYONE who happens to voice even the slightest criticism of his/her master's (i.e. J.J. Abrams) new film, I'd rather NOT argue with fleas. I'd like to be left in peace. I'll except the judgment of the powers that be, on this board, if they find my conduct out of order.

Indeed, I'm fully aware that my response to the unwarranted attack by Wkdygtroll is OFF TOPIC, and for that, I apologize to all on this thread. I'll simply close by saying, anyone who wants to know the TRUTH about the events that lead to the Trekspace Admns sad transformation into the Third Reich of Trekdom, can contact me via private message.

You and I are acquainted as well, WeakdYiNGMan. I'm so pleased to see that you have learned to use vowels in sentences, if not in all parts of your name, O Consonant Crusader! (Makes me laugh)
If all you still do on here is say "No" and call names, what are you really here for?
Fellowship? You've already shunned two long time Trek fans?

Self aggrandisement? You come off as mean spirited and more than a little silly.

Perhaps you think short answers cancel out an issue's complexity. Brevity being the soul of wit and all that.

Your negative jabs fall far short of convincing me of anything.

I know that you don't care what I think.

Or should I say "knw tht yu dn't cr wht thnk"

You became a joke on trekspace. I was banned because I didn't like Abrams' version and said so. Argued it many times.

Recently, many long time members were banned. Two that I know of for no real reason.

But the Wk abides.

How is that?

Without getting personal here (and I could. I really could.), you seem to see only the negative and you seem to relish personally attacking others for the simple act of daring to disagree with you.

You care enough about the new trek that Abrams and crew are taking you on so much that you either distance yourself from Rodenberry or try your best to belittle that man who created something that led to your newest, most favorite thing. Whether that's the new movie or griping at people who didn't like it, I don't know.

I do know and have been friends with Ben J Grimm and Doc Noc for many years and not just online. We see each other frequently and (sorry to break this to you, old sport) rarely ever mention you.

So, you can be King of the Message Boards all you want. You can dis the Great Bird and minimize his creative abilities from now until there's a sequel to Citizen Kane.

But, ya know what? We have hundreds of episodes of the various Star Treks. You traded it all for a two hour plus cartoon with pretty effects. If you ever liked, dare I say, LOVED Star Trek, how can you deny what has come before? How can you stand on the shoulders of giants to get a glimpse at the gnat that the new offering actually is?

And how, sir, can you make fun of anyone who really loves something. Even if it's just a TV show. It is held dear in their hearts and minds. What a small place your heart must be.

To say nothing of your mind.

Good day. I would have sent this as a PM, but you picked on my friends.

I await your five word or less response.

This is my first post on this Forum...

I've been a SF and Trek fan since I first saw it as a kid - and luvved every moment of it. At the time, the weekly adventures of Kirk, Spock, McCoy, et al, was a glimpse into a world I barely knew existed.

But I have to agree with "DammitJim". Especially where he stated,

DJ can't even agree with himself.  He liked the movie, then pussied out and decided not to like it again.

Quote
I'm talking about the spirit of STAR TREK. What used to define "Star Trek" as optimistic about the future.

Sure, we'd find aliens and have problems with them. Then we'd finds ways to overcome those problems. That was Roddenberry's vision of the future; hope.

Ahh yes, hopeful, until the next week when the crew or humanity were threatened into oblivion.. and then the next week when they were threatened out of existence, and then the next week....

Quote
But can anyone please tell me what positive theme came out of this movie? Because I sure as hell couldn't find anything. Not a thing.

Or that you didn't want to, which I'm going to guess is common with the naysayers who are purposely playing this card.

Quote
This was some aberration; a mutation spawned from our psyche and current obssession with destruction. ?Don't believe me?

This would actually go with some of the many definitions that Star Trek was supposed to explore the human condition, and you just said that it supposedly did just that.

Quote
This is not Star Trek As We Know It, Jim. It is something that is... obscene. It is the Mirror Universe Star Trek - and it permeates our current entertainment industry.

Yet most of us like it.  Odd.

Quote
Somehow, I don't believe he would be happy...

Not for you to say, and again, not really relevant.  He wasn't happy with "The Wrath of Khan" either, so much for that!

;)

They were going to.  This has been gone over a ton of times and even stated in the film.  Nero wants to make sure that Romulus exists free of the Federation before anything else.  Think of Ensign Chippendale's speech to Khan when he informs Khan that they have what they want and there was no need to keep chasing Kirk, but that wasn't good enough for Khan.  Kirk was his target no matter what "Devices of Conquer" he had under his built.  Not all mass murderers have a great, you know, "motive."

the blood is green. i've watched this film a number of times and the blood is green.

spock is in control but makes the wrong decision based on logic alone, until kirk makes him realease his grief and anger he has toward Nero..

the other things are so minor I don't consider it a disagrace..

Speaking of, if you watch the film again, watch the sword go through the Romulan during the drill combat.  Look at the green blood on the other side of the blade!
