Art Asylum/Diamond Select Toys: Quality?

I've only owned a few of the Art Asylum/Diamond Select Toys releases, and I confess to being very disappointed with just about all of them.  I bought a First Contact Picard, only to discover red paint on the wrists of his hands.  Also, there was clearly a place for a second set of hands designed to hold the rest of his accessories, but no such replacement hands were produced meaning that some accessories can't be placed in his hands at all.

Still, that's better than my First Contact Data.  The very first time I tried to switch out his right arm, the connecting joint broke off, leaving part inside the figure's torso.  Now I can't connect the arm to anything, and the remaining piece of the joint prevents me from putting in the other arm.

The only other two figures I've owned are the Captain Kirk and Command Chair (from "Where No Man Has Gone Before") and I have no real complaints about that (other than the side monitor broke off, but that was my fault) and the "Tapestry" Picard, which was sent to me to make up for my First Contact Picard woes.  I confess I wound up selling that on eBay to help pay to renew my car tag, but it appeared to be fine.

I'm tempted to buy some of the figures, especially the Mego-styled "Retro Figures," but these experiences have made me entirely too timid about paying DST prices for inferior quality items.  Can any other collectors speak to this issue?  Have I just gotten extremely unlucky?  Or are these things that are designed to look much better in ads and showrooms than they really are?

You sure it was First Contact and not Nemesis?

Yup.  My Picard is in the commando vest, and Data has Borg parts.

The Mego's I have are very nice. They have delt with the quality issue several years back. Most every thing out now is top notch quality.

Good to know.  I might splurge and treat myself to a "Retro" Captain Kirk and Gorn.

Hmm... I own many (O.k, 7) of the Diamond Select Toys Star Trek figs, and I've not had a problem with them yet.. I even have the First Contact Data of which you speak, and have switched his arm and head many times with their alternates with no problemo.

Perhaps Q is screwing with you... :logical:

Yeah, there are problems with DST figures. But you can contact their customer service and they will exchange the figure for free (at least this works).

I'm looking at pics from the Enterprise-D/'All Good Things' Enterprise-D... and there's one thing I have to say: what's with the lack of detail/windows on the neck of the Enterprise? It looks like the All Good Things version has more detail.

Yeah a shame... I am awaiting my ships, and will make a decal to undo this production mistake.

But they nevertheless look absolutely stunning. If only Playmates got the alternate Enterprise that way...  ;)

They  dont look very good considering they are from AA truth be told, I am suspecting they are puting most of the money in the Excelscior class ships.

Now all they need to do is the Ambassador class/ENT-C, That's a real beauty!  ;)  :logical:

Haven't seen them live, but they get excellent reviews from all over the net.

Many members at Trektoys.com say that those are the best ships DST/AA have released to date.

I cannot wait to get them, should be any day now.
