And what did you think?

Just out of curiosity. Sorry I can't remember if it's been done before. But whatever.

Mine was Planet X, which was also the first crossover story I ever read too - so I quite liked the idea and thought it was a lot of fun.

The first Star Trek book I ever read was "Black Fire" back in the early 80s.

I believe--and I could be wrong--that the first for me was the novelization of Star Trek: The Motion Picture, written by Alan Dean Foster (and credited to Gene Roddenberry).

I know the first hardback I read was Peter David's Imzadi.  (I had started Diane Duane's Spock's World first, but couldn't get into it.)  These days, knowing your first hardcover isn't that big of a deal, but back in the day they were considered something special in Trek lit.  I think that kind of died off when they quit numbering the paperbacks.

The first non-novelization paperback?  That's hard.  I would think it was either Rules of Engagement (whose author's name escapes me presently) or Bloodthirst by J.M. Dillard.  It may have been the paperback printing of Prime Directive by Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens, though.  I remember reading all three of those kind of close together, but the sequence is long forgotten.

Bonus: The first Star Trek comic books I ever bought/read were Star Trek (Vol. 2) #26 and Star Trek: The Next Generation #25, both published by DC Comics.  For some reason, the convenience store where I bought them hadn't put out TNG #26, even though they were supposed to be on the same shipping schedule.

The first Trek book I read was Dwellers in the Crucible by Margaret Wander Bonanno. I remember picking it up in a book store in Michigan in 1990.

I read the back of the book, and it said that Sulu was sent on an undercover mission into Romulan territory. I was like "yeah, that sounds awesome." Turns out the book was mostly about 2 characters (I believe 1 human and 1 vulcan) that we're being held prisoner (I think by Klingons, but it was 19 years ago when I read it). There was very little of the Enterprise crew in the book, and Sulu's mission was only talked about in a couple of paragraphs explaining his mission, and a couple when he got out of Romulan space. It told virtually nothing of what happened. Very disappointing.

But it did get me started with Trek books. I believe I read Yesterday's Son and The Kobayashi Maru next.

My 1st Star Trek book was Uhura's song. But I loved the book Metamorphasis , where Data is human for a little while, the ending sucked.

The first Trek book I read was one of the James Blish adaptations,Star Trek 9, back in fourth grade,1974.

I thought it wasn't like the episodes that were shown on TV.

Didn't know what an 'adaptation' was at the time.
