Since the new Star Trek relies on an alternate reality, how about an alternate reality for the old TOS fogies.

For example: Spock, Kirk, Ohura, Sulu and Janice Rand (you remember Yeoman Janice Rand who becomes CPO Rand), are sitting around a dark bar in San Francisco, holding a delayed wake for dearly departed Scotty and McCoy. Everyone but Spock is sloppily drunk; he is quietly drunk.

Kirk to Rand: You know I used to have a thing for you and had I not been your superior officer, I believe we would have done the Constellation Conga.

Ohura to Spock: You know I used to have a thing for you and had you not been my superior officer, I believe we could have done some intergalactic intermingling.

Sulu to all: Hey, home come nobody ever had a thing for me?

All to Sulu: Because you're gay!

or

Same place, same drunk
Kirk is weeping for McCoy
Sulu is weeping for Scotty
Checkov is weeping for the Berlin Wall
Ohura is weeping for no one in particular
Spock is wailing for his lost mother

CPO (ret) Rand comes in and slaps everybody around until they come to their senses

or

Same Place, Same Drunk
Kirk: We were wonnerful, jest wonnerful the way we saved the universe time and again.

Ohura: And we were so young and attractive.

Checkov: Although I was better without the vig--er, I mean, viii--false hair.

Rand: Hey, Kirk, you wanna get it on?

Sulu: How come no one wants to get in one with me?

All begin weeping and wailing for their lost comrades, for their lost youth, for their lost hair, UNTIL

One by one, Spock uses the Vulcan nerve pinch, until he is sitting surrounded by the prone forms of his colleagues.

"That's better," he says, and sips his space brew.

Or
AND WHAT I AM REALLY AFRAID I WILL SEE:

New Spock, New Kirk, and New McCoy are on a massive shore leave drunk during which the visit a wh!!! house, get into several bar fights, and land in the brig out of which Kirk charms them so the boys can get back to saving the universe.

here's the old TOS alternate reality. ¿

Kirk-prime finds the door from the hereafter back into the Nexus. ¿once there, he returns to the planet where he had amnesia and married mirimani, in time to destroy the asteroid early. ¿he call spock and tells him he's staying and that the enterprise should go and never return. ¿ he becomes leader of the Sosumi (so sue me) tribe, makes Salish his personal monkey-boy, and fathers many children by many maidens. ¿ his final days are spent fighting a nearby tribe on the northern continent, the Sulu-haha tribe. ¿

Spock-prime we know about, he's still in the story.

Scott-prime-ghost and McCoy-prime-ghost have taken the opt-out clause in their contracts and are no longer contractually obligated, though they do share in a percentage of royalties for another ten years or so. ¿

Sulu-prime and Chechov-prime both slip into an alternate reality themselves, where their contracts vanish, and william shatner suddenly becomes James Cawley. ¿
Sulu prime screams and sits upright awake in bed, as Masi Oka applies a cool damp cloth to his forehead. ¿
Checkov-prime screams and sits upright awake at the navigators station on the enterprise, with james cawley asking if he wants his line fed to him again.

Uhura-prime sits rocking on a porch in new orleans, hoping that if little micah's storyline comes back in Heroes that the kid visits grandma.

JJ Abrams reads this and it becomes the next Star Trek

Imagine  this:

Kirk, Spock and McCoy awake from a terrific drunk to discover that someone has left them a baby and a note.

The note says: "It's your turn."

The rest of the movie is about how these three become superlative space daddies as they serve for the mother:

Is it any of the 3,000 woman Kirk has been with in the past year?
Is it a Spock-Ohura love child?
Is it the result of a little nookie between McCoy and Nurse Chapel?

The search, however, is complicated by a combined attack of revenge bent Romulans and bored Klingons with nothing better to do.

Thus we have sex, comedy, and explosions in one perfect movie: Star Trek: Three men and a battle

"One of the reasons we wanted to break with the original 'Star Trek' timeline was it felt restrictive," Abrams said. "The idea, now that we are in an independent timeline, allows us to use any of the ingredients from the past - or come up with brand-new ones - to make potential stories." This is a interview I just read. Rick Berman was able to do over 620 hours of star trek without screwing the time line up or having to change the time line. Today's hollywood writers producers and directors are just not talented is all. Any professional writer could have taken the material that already existed and gave a great prequel. Currently this is happening with the prequel Caprica. It is restricted by what was introduced in the pilot and what we know is to come 60 years later. It does not ruin the story line knowing what will happen to certain characters. It didn't ruin the story line of the star wars prequel knowing that Anakin would become Darth Vader. So sticking to the star trek that was and knowing the Kirk dies on veridian 3 would not have ruined any current stories that could have been told. J.J, you will not be making any more money off of me. And Paramount shouting about this film making 76 million on opening weekend (well Star Trek 2 still has done better. In 1982 dollars Star Trek 2 made 80 million at the box office - tickets were 2 dollars for a matinee: Star Trek 11 cost me 8 dollars for a matinee, that is four times higher than 1982. Divide the 76 by 4 and you get 19 million . Trek 11 has so far only earned 19 million in 1982 dollars, a long way from passing Star Trek 2. ) and the studios do go by the tickets sold not by the dollar amount gained.

I think that Berman though got quite boring and repeatative.  I like the idea of being able to do anything.  I think it's insulting to old trek fans to try and stay in a used up timeline when we can start something fresh to explore a new love for the show, new connections, and new relations to our loved universe of Trek.

wait, instead have kirk, spock and mccoy find one of those space-whale babies like in The Next Generation, but unlike Picard and Geordi, they can't figure out how to get it off the ship. ¿THEN they have to raise it as their own.

Yes! Excellent idea!

At one point the bridge of that ship looked like "Take you child to school day." There was a logic to  the story line that is missing in this reboot. But it doesn't matter because the reboot was not aimed at me. The movie makers certainly don't need me to buy a ticket. And they made that obvious.

Meanwhile,

McCoy, Kirk, and Spock share a shore apartment together on a planet that looks a lot like Boston and hang out at a basement bar called Clears...

Love it.

The reboot was aimed at everyone EXCEPT existing fans.
Looking for a new audience. Most of us old fans will be dead soon and many of us don't go to the cinema any more.

:honorable: But WE spend all the money on toys and clothing!  Never seen anyone under 40 with a phaser in hand.  The young'uns just sit and wait for us to drive them places.  I don't think anyone under 40 would actually pilot the enterprise (LOL).

If you pay attention there are several middle aged people on the bridge of the enterprise.
