2009 Conventions?

I'm new to these forums, but it wasn't much pleasure to go to the conventions page and see everything is from 2008.  Star Trek is such a great franchise, but how can it be thriving when there are not 2009 conventions listed on 'startrek.com'?

About a year and half ago, CBS, for no apparent reason, came in and sacked the staff at Startrek.com. That original team did a great job keeping the site up to date with even the smallest of information involving anyone with any connection to Trek.

Since that time, there has been very little maintenance done to the site. And in particular, the convention page hasn't been touched at all since the sacking occurred.

There are several conventions taking place this year. In particular, the two Star Trek conventions that Creations Entertainment does (one in New Jersey and the big on in Las Vegas). For more info go to www.creationent.com

Another of my favorites is the Tulsa, OK, Trek Expo in June. www.trekexpo.net

Recently, another member of the message boards posted this link to a site that features personal appearances of Star Trek actors all over the world. It is very comprehensive and a great resource for convention goers. ?http://startrekappearances.blogspot.com/

I hope that helps. Good luck, and I hope to see you at a con soon.

Creation runs most of the Trek cons going on in the U.S. Over saturation killed off Trek cons IMO. I've seen the same guest over and over in 20 years. Another company- Slanted Fedora went bankrupt running Trek cons across the country 7 or so years ago. Creation basically likes to rape fans for every dollar they have when going to a con. Do a search locally on google for your area. I came across this site (not sure how good it is). http://www.scificonventions.com/index.php

Check the hotels. I know some were booked near the con 6 months ago.

All convention hotels are booked.  The nearest hotel is like 8 blocks away, if you are lucky.

Hey there! Just wondering if people go to conventions anymore here in Sacramento? I have not been in years and it seems that Creation has not really been the same since I stopped going. I would like to go again..........suggestions? =)

Me thinks this is the last year for the Vegas con.  Attendance was down last year.  With the waffling on the new Experience.  The Grand Slam going back to all Trek in Nov and only two day.  I guess there will be only one con next year or two that are Trek and that's it.

I never been to a convention and I very much would like to go to one. I lived in Tulsa, OK for about 2 1/2 years  but dont' anymore, and never been to that one there they have every year. I really wished I did now, but thats in the past. I do hope that maybe someday I'll get to go to one. If I do I would love to meet the charcters from favorite two shows The Orginal Series and The Next Genaration. Espically these characters: Willam Shatner (Kirk) Leonard Nimoy (Spock) Brent Spiner (Data) Jonathan Franks (Riker) Patrick Stweart (Picard)  James Doohen (Soctty) and I also love to meet the new crew version of the O.S. : Chris Pine (Kirk) Zachaury Quntio (Spock) Karl Urban (McCoy) and so on.

I hate to break the news to you, StarTreKOSNG1Fan, but James Doohan passed away a couple of years ago.

Is Creation bad when it comes to conventions? I am going to the NJ one to meet Connor Trinneer and Kate Mulgrew, and I was hoping it would be a well done convention. Though I was a bit shocked at some of the rates they charge for photo ops. It seems the money for autographs is worth it though.

Oh,thank you for that information. I wasn't sure all of the ones from the orginal series were still alive or not. The only one I knew from the show that passed away was Defrost Kelly, but I wasn't sure about  James Doohen. The only ones I know are still alive is William Shattner and Lenorad Nimmoy, but I'm not sure what others are still here. I guess because you see alot of William Shatner and Lenorad Nimmoy then anybody else from the orginal series. Well I sill like to meet the ones that are still here, and meet the actors that are from the new movie.

Are TNG, DS9, etc. actors at the conventions, too? I really want to meet Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, and whoever played Tuvac (again).
