Personally, I would love to make first contact with the Deltans and the Betazoid. The reason... because I could have such intellectual pursuits and benefits and , in turn, they will recieve a play thing.

I would like to make first contact with Andorians, Deltans, the Talosians, the Denobulans, and the Vulcans. The Vulcans and Denobulans for Science and Medical reasons. The Talosians for their telepathic abilities and technology. The Andorians for action and adventure. The Deltans for fun and partying. After what happen to Trip and Reed, I contact Risa later.

Just kidding. I'd prefer vulcans from the star trek universe. however in reality I'd prefer something with the vulcan logic but looks much different from us, to help unite us. you stick a skinhead, a black supremacist, a muslim terrorist, a Bush/Palin fanatic, and a Jew in a room with a little green man, and who do you think all those humans are going to stick with? Obviously the humans would stick together. They'd be united, even if only for the sake of a newfound prejudice against the aliens.

I think Vulcans definately, they are advanced enough to offer us assistance yet they are peaceful and that is the key surely.
Peaceful + logic = the best

on a different level completely the silicon being from the TOS episode "The Alternative Factor" would be pretty cool just because it is so.... well alien
