I don't know if you have seen the new Trek movie yet. My question is since it appears this new timeline from 2233 on will remain the new prime timeline, will this effect anything you do on Cardinal? I know Cardinal takes place around 170 years after this and a lot of things can still change. Has the new movie even factored into your new series?

I read your character bios again and I am starting to envision some of the crew interacting. I am trying to imagine this crew on a cramped Defiant sized ship. My appetite is at the tip of just getting wet for this. I really hope this gets picked up.

Well, I'll answer both of you.  By the way, you can direct future questions to the forum on our webstie - WWW.StarTrekCardinal.com - This way you can speak to the whole staff (or at least who bothers to show up on any given day) and some of the fans and other members.

Anyway, Cardinal was created independant of the new movie, and will not take the new movie into account at all.  The Abramsverse is a different universe that does nothing to change the Roddenberryverse.  This is not just because I want to continue the old journey instead of rebooting, but also because CBS/Paramount television has no legal right to make a new series in the Abramsverse.  Also, if you want a good example of how the crew interact, there's two sample scripts available.  They're not nearly good enough to be real scripts, but they help people understand the characters and themes.

As for the plot of Cardinal, it's all at the website mentioned above.  Essentially it's about a border patrol ship that finds itself at the center of a major moral dilemma.  It's a deep morality play with a lot of action and humor along the way.  We're really proud of it.

Oh I have read the plot and love it and think it will work. Especially those magic words of 1/4 of the usual budget. I know tv execs want to hear that after Enterprise. It almost seems like DS9 except set on a ship with an even more diverse crew. At least that is the vibe I get without actually reading sample scripts. I will go on your site again later and request those scripts.

But still though the movie is in an alternate timeline not universe. You are basically saying this movie is in an alternate universe just like the mirror universe is in an alternate universe. Trek has alternate universes and alternate timelines as separate concepts and events. But even so your series is set far enough into the future where the events in this movie will not necessarily effect your characters and missions. Your timeline can easily play out still I think.

I know you hate the time travel device but even you must acknowledge it's power with fans. I have read your never do's list awhile back and you are probably thinking here we go again with another fanboy. I was just wondering if it was effecting your guys course but you have answered no and that is perfectly fine. I just don't see how you cannot acknowledge the movie as being what it is.

I personally believe real life time travel would incorporate alternate universes and time travel in the same theory but that is a discussion for ten forward. See www.johntitor.com

If Cardinal ever goes into production, can you please have an episode where the crew goes back in time and erases Star Trek XI, XII, XIII, the Edselprise and the iBridge from existance?

For those that like the AU, you will still have your DVDs.

***SPOILER***

In the last episode, Pamela wakes up to discover that Bobby, who was in the shower, wasn't dead after all, and it had all been a bad dream.

It has a lot of the cynacism of DS9, but it's much more like TOS in tone with more grounded concepts.  It's a very cerebral show that's not afraid to have a knock-down, drag-out fight every so often, just like TOS.

There actually is one time-travel episode in season two that I just recently wrote called 'The Unheard.'  The time travel element is used as nothing more than a way to get two characters there and back, and only goes 26 years back.  I'm against time travel mostly because it is so often mis-used, or used as a central concept, or used for the novelty of time travel.  If it's just a plot device, that's a different story.

It's still just a proposed TV series.  I'll be talking it over in August while I'm out west for the convention, so we'll see where it goes from there.
