I hate the tie-ins/crossovers too, but I know in theory this will triple book sales (in theory).  But I know I have no interest in the "crossovers".

I love the DS9 books I have read so far, they actually continue the series in a quality manner.   I love the new characters and the direction.  Its sad that its taken a backseat.   Again, I consider Avatar, Left Hand and War Path to be Season 8.

For sure.  Those are great books as well.    I am surprised that many DS9 fans haven't picked up on these books as they are a basically Season 8 and beyond.

As a HUGE DS9 fan, I can tell you that I loathe the Season Eight (and beyond) Relaunch.

Personally, I think the writing is amateurish and the ideas/concepts are some of the worst fanfic imaginable (i.e., nerdy-to-the-extreme and full of wistful power fantasies).

The Season Eight books suck. IMO.

Sorry to rain on your cheerleader-centric parade.

Don't go.

I was curious if there any books (Gamma, Avatar, etc.) that you actually liked.

Give it time. ¿Avatar is good.

Ota: Yes, the Jem'hadar goes loopy. ¿ I just loved the new characters and it made DS9 fresh again.

Okay, you were right. I did really end up liking Avatar. It picked up after about page 130 or so, and I feel like the writing improved after that too. Maybe she just had a hard time getting the story started...

I'm now on to Section 31 and so far I'm liking it.

I only read the Twist of Faith omnibus.

Now, I'd also bought the These Haunted Seas omnibus, but after deciding I pretty much hated the developments in Twist of Faith? Well, I'm not even going to bother with These Haunted Seas.

Oh, I also have the Star Trek comicbook DVD collection that includes HUNDREDS of Trek comics from Gold Key, DC, Marvel, and WildStorm. And some of those WildStorm miniseries are based on the "Season Eight Relaunch."

And it probably comes as no surprise that I don't much like those either. The art, however, is actually pretty strong for the DS9/TNG ("relaunch") crossover. The artwork in N-Vector, meanwhile, is very cool and stylistic, but simply not my cup of tea.

Yeah, I just really cannot stand the directions the Pocket Books editors and writers have taken the DS9 and TNG characters. Their decisions seem to be more about "wouldn't this be kewl?" rather than "wouldn't this make sense?" or "wouldn't this be more like what we'd actually see on the large or small screen?"

I actually went into the "Season Eight Relaunch" with high hopes. But color me extremely disappointed.

For me, Trek ended with "What You Leave Behind." I mean, I've really taken to the developments in Star Trek Online (which I believe make more sense and stay truer to the spirit of the various series). But even so, I still cannot help but recognize the game and its accompanying novel as fun, passable fanfic.

So I guess what I'm saying is "Season Eight" would still have been considered fluffy fanfic by me, regardless. But while I believe STO is pretty darn decent fanfic, I find "Season Eight" to be just downright abyssmal.

Anyway, my two cents.

I miss the days of the numbered novels...

The Way Things Go, is like this:

As long as there is a market for books to head in a certain direction, that is the direction they will very likely take.

I would love to see the sales figures for these books relative to the way things go.
