Lets start off with a little introduction. I am Lieutenant Commander Talak Rahl of the Operations Division of Lotus Fleet, and I am the Fleet Recruitment Coordinator. I joined Lotus Fleet just shy of about one month ago, but since I've joined, I have been amazed by the dedication and hard work that many members put into Lotus Fleet.

Now, Lotus Fleet was created for the purpose of being one of the premier fleets in the upcoming Star Trek Online game, and was created in January 2008. However, since the announcement from Perpetual that they were dropping out of development, many people became anxious and worried that ST:O would never come out. Those few months were fairly hard on Lotus Fleet, but with patience and perseverance, they were able to pull through those difficult times. Now, with the word that Cryptic has been working on ST:O, Lotus Fleet still has its door open to any new prospective members.

Let me state some of the highlights of the fleet. Lotus Fleet is a place for active, mature gamers to get ready and be prepared for the launch of Star Trek Online. One of the most brilliant things about Lotus Fleet, at least in my opinion, is that its built around a structure that reduces drama. In every MMO, there will be drama, and Lotus Fleet has a system in place to combat that, so instead of endless bickering amongst members, we can move forward and boldly go.

Another aspect of the fleet is our command structure. We have Fleet Admiral Nova and Admiral Redshirt; they are Lotus Fleet's Commanding Officer and Executive Officer, respectively. Under them are three divisions of Lotus Fleet: Command, Operations, and Academy. Each division has its respective commanding and executive officer, except command where Fleet Admiral Nova and Admiral Redshirt act in those positions for obvious reasons. These three division makes up Lotus Fleet as a whole, and all are essential in their function.

Operations is perhaps one of the largest out of the three sections of Lotus Fleet. Its purpose is to prepare the fleet for when Star Trek Online launches and to manage many of the events that are being held in the fleet. As of now we are working on getting together groups for training in Bridge Commander and Elite Force 2 for being better prepared once the actual game comes out. We are using Bridge Commander as the space combat aspect of ST:O and EF2 for the ground aspect of ST:O. Even if the gameplay turns out to be nothing like these two games mentioned above, the exercises and training still work as practice for formations and teamwork, as well as forming bonds between each Lotus Fleet member. There is also Roleplaying, for those that enjoy it. We have various ships that are being filled up as we speak with members that would like to RP. As far as Roleplaying goes, we actually condense the storylines from the various episodes that have been finished into a novel format for posting. There are also many other things in Operations that have not been mentioned, but for brevity's sake, I won't go into that. however, if you do have any questions, feel free to PM me, visit the site (in my siggy), or post here.

As for the Academy, this is actually open to anyone. That's right anyone. Even if you do not want to be part of Lotus Fleet, you may still join the Academy and graduate with a Lotus Fleet diploma (and yes we do have diplomas). At the Academy, you can take various tracks like Science, Engineering, Tactical, Medical, etc and there are over 60 courses to choose from. The Academy is in place also to get all of our members to the same level of Star Trek knowledge, at least, get some more relaxed fans relatively on the same level as the more knowledgeable ones. Right now, the Academy is still in the works, but it's very close to release, with estimated release date in about under two weeks, and so if you have any questions about the Academy you can leave a post here, PM me, or visit our site.

This pretty much concludes some of the major points that Lotus Fleet has to offer to prospective members, but what you see here is definitely not all we have. Further, we are also working on a new website, so if you don't like how our site is laid out, then you have no worries, since that will be changing very soon. (also sometime in September)

Regards,
Lt. Commander Talak Rahl

Update from Lotus Fleet

A month has passed since my last post, and yes Lotus Fleet is still very much alive and doing very well. For now, I would just like to update the Star Trek community about how Lotus Fleet has been progressing since my initial post and what we plan for the future.

First off, the Academy. I realize that I stated that the Academy would be releasing somewhere in mid-September, and unfortunately at the time of the post, I had misunderstood what the Academy Commanding Officer had said. However, this does not mean that the Academy has been stagnated in anyway, but is in fact very very close to completion. Actually, in reality, all Lotus Fleet Academy courses and tests have been completed and are currently being uploaded onto our own Cadet User Interface (CUI), and the Fleet Officers and Academy staff will begin Alpha-stage testing of the Academy. So, please be aware that the Academy is coming on along extremely well and we're all very excited for its very near release. Hopefully, if all goes well, then the Academy will be released for public use sometime in early/mid-October. Everyone in Lotus Fleet is extremely proud of our Academy staff and anyone who helped write the courses; they put an amazing amount of work and effort to get everything together, and they should all be applauded for their devotion.

Now for our Operations division, many things have been developed and refined for the past month. I had stated in the past that our site should have been released somewhere around this time, and again, I apologize for the delay and the somewhat faulty information. But again, we are working on it and in fact, we have new forums that are very close to being released (very close meaning next week if everything goes well). However, the new website itself has seen a few more delays than we would have liked, but due to, as all of you have experienced, real-life complications, which is perfectly understandable, our website has been delayed for quite a while. But, I would like to happily report that Lotus Fleet has gotten off the ground with our new website and a team has been put together and they are working diligently on creating the "new face" of Lotus Fleet. Expect more updates concerning our new website in the upcoming months. Next, our Diplomatic Corp, headed by Lieutenant Commander ElijahMrE, our Fleet Senior Diplomatic Officer, has made a huge bounds in progress with our diplomatic policy and documents. Lotus Fleet is well on its way to forging new relationships with other fleets, and we're hoping that we will have some prolific alliances once Star Trek Online releases.

I would also like to add in a little note for our Admiral Redshirt. He has put in a leave of absence from Lotus Fleet because of one of his family member's health, and he has opted to spend more time with his family, naturally. Admiral Redshirt has been an invaluable asset to Lotus Fleet as the Executive Officer, and has contributed countless amounts of hours and dedication into the Fleet, and his retirement is in good faith. We all have hopes in our hearts and best wishes for Random Redshirt and his ailed family member.

Lotus Fleet has been a work in progress since the beginning of January, and we're continuing to develop and refine our fleet so that we may become one of premier fleets in Star Trek Online. Thank you for your time and stay tuned for some more updates on Lotus Fleet.

Well I wouldn't know how you would go about joining other fleets, but for Lotus Fleet in particular, you would have to go to our forums at Lotus Fleet Forums, register, and then submit an application under the application center. If you're having problems, please bear with us, we're actually in the middle of changing a lot of things with our website, which I'm going to announce here shortly. And if you're having any trouble at all with anything, submit it through our Support page at Lotus Fleet Support and submit a trouble ticket, and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.

EDIT: Ok, we have made a few changes since we are in the middle of switching over to new forums. You still need to go to the Lotus Fleet forums (link is above), and then click "Apply to Lotus Fleet". Follow the instructions there and you're good to go.

It is my great honor to present to the community our new Lotus Fleet Executive Officer, Admiral Dominik Kale. He was our Lotus Fleet Academy Executive Officer for a long time and he has proven himself as a very dedicated and hard-working member of the fleet. During his short time as our Fleet XO, Admiral Kale has put in even more time into the fleet and has proven himself as a very capable XO thus far. So everyone, give your congratulation to Admiral Dominik Kale!

The Academy has not yet been released, so again, I apologize for misinforming the community about the release date of the Lotus Fleet Academy, so I will not continue to put a "ETA" on that; however, know that we are still working on it and it is about to undergo rigorous testing before we launch it for the public. Vice Admiral Athos and the Academy staff are still working on getting the Cadet User Interface as polished as possible so that we won't encounter any unforeseen hurdles.

Now for the big surprise for the coming month. I won't reveal it because it won't be a surprise, but this is what Lotus Fleet Operations has been working extremely hard on this month. So all I can tell you is to visit Lotus Fleet and see for yourself. Just wait patiently for the countdown and join us for the party--I don't even know what the surprise is myself, so I am kind of left hanging.

Lotus Fleet is a Star Trek and MMO Gaming Community as well as a multifaceted Role-playing guild. What Lotus Fleet intends to accomplish while maintaining a Star Fleet structured ranking system that encourages progression through the ranks while allowing our members to bring new and unique ideas to the table to create an environment that has become our Fleet’s Motto, “Being a Star Fleet Officer of the 21st Century”.

We as a Fleet aspire to bring “like minded” individuals together from all over the world who share in the appreciation of Star Trek while recognizing that the interests of our members even go beyond Star Trek itself. We also know that Star Trek Fans exist all over the world and within the vein of what is seen in the Star Trek TV series we believe that due to technological advancements, now is the time in which individuals all over the world have the opportunity to shape their ideas and  learn about other cultures and other individuals while having a common interest that otherwise due to geographical boarders or stereotypical assumptions has prevented people from sharing in that common interest or expanding their knowledge of the world and thereby slowed humanity’s progress as a unified species. With this in mind we take great efforts in developing unique content for our site that our members can take advantage of on a daily basis which ultimately allows people to make Lotus Fleet part of their daily routine.

As a requirement for membership to Lotus Fleet and to take full advantage of all of its content and resources Lotus Fleet does ask that individuals interested in joining our community, take the time to attend and complete Lotus Fleet Academy. With that in mind at no time will members of Lotus Fleet ever be asked to pay or support the fleet monetarily as this is a cost that is absorbed by the Fleet’s Leadership and proudly offered to our members free of charge in order to encourage Gene Roddenberry’s vision of Humanities future. All that we ask is that you give us your time, patience and presence that we may get the opportunity get to know you and you to know us.

Lotus Fleet Academy is designed to offer a robust and scalable Star Fleet Academy that will help new Star Trek fans become familiar with both in game content and the Star Trek Universe as whole while allowing the seasoned Star Trek Fans the ability to reminisce upon what has made Star Trek so great in every one's mind. Our Academy Staff has dedicated many combined years to all things Trek and are more than pleased to bestow that knowledge on new members of the Fleet. Upon Graduation all graduates receive a Lotus Fleet Academy diploma that is uniquely serialized and registered with the Academy Database for all time. In addition graduates have the opportunity to place any 1 of several dozen specialities on their diploma that complements the Tactical/Security, Medical, Science, or Engineering fields of study and with over 100 courses cadets are guaranteed to have an experience that is unique to their interests.

Lotus Fleet takes pride in its uniquely structured and managed member driven Star Trek Role Playing which allows fans to assume ranks ranging from Ensign to Captain aboard any number of Star Fleet Ships. Secondly, Lotus Fleet also encourages its members to Role-play in other genre’s that are not related to Star Trek and assume a more “free-form” method of role-playing. Please keep in mind that Role-playing is by no means a requirement and many of our members do not actually role-play as the system in which role-playing is conducted sets itself apart from the day to day operations and interactions within the Fleet. Upon graduation from the Academy, new fleet members will embark on a journey that will continue to develop and support the idea of member based Fleet support and allow dedicated members ample opportunity to shape Lotus Fleet into and even more exciting and richer experience for future members and will also ensure that Lotus Fleet remains the most elite and fun Fleets that they can be proud of.

If you are not familiar with the MMO type of game play, The term "Fleet" is in fact equivalent to what you might call a "Guild" that you would find in WoW, SWG or COH. That means that should you decide to become member of Lotus Fleet, you will also have the support and dedication that can only come with a group of dedicated MMO Gamers, that all share in the common interests that attract them to the multitude of games that Lotus Fleet sponsors and supports.

Lotus Fleet would also like to offer an extended invitation to all service members world wide wherever you might be. Whether you will have the ability to play any MMO or Simply are interested in Role Playing or even taking part in our online Pen and Paper RP sessions you will always have a welcome home here and we would still like to offer a little piece of home and show our appreciation for what you do. Given that communication and Internet time and bandwidth is at a premium in some locations Lotus Fleet has also developed our “mobile” site that removes the heavy imagery that may slow down your connections but still offer the same high quality content that you expect. We also hope that these opportunities will afford a common ground of enjoyment for you and your family together so that you may feel at home with them.

That's a long sell. Attend am academy? Really? I'm a vice admiral with no affiliation and you would have me attend an academy? I'll check you out because I haven't heard back from shadow dragon fleet yet and I respect you reaching our here but the cut and paste post isn't very inspiring.

Thank you for your consideration to Lotus Fleet, and given the amount of work and attention to detail that our Academy Staff has given to bring well organized and entertaining information to both members and guests from the community, I am sure that you will be one added to the 500+ individuals who have throughly enjoyed our Academy experience and with any luck you will see the level of dedication that we as Star Trek fans have to the franchise. Please remember that we are always looking at expanding and improving the experience for the community at no obligation to join lotus fleet, so once completed please fill out the survey and let us know what you thought.

Thank you again
