I live too far away and wasn't going, but I read this on another forum. Jumcon may not be happening?? It seems there are different ones in different cities. I do know the next one (Boston) is with RB. I don't see Robert Picardo on that list.

There have been rumors. They've cancelled 2 already (the ones scheduled for last week (7/4) and this week (7/11). There is also news that many of the guests have not been paid and other parts of their contracts were not satisfied.

what I wrote in the Voyager board:

This is the con I'm going to next week. They canceled a few of their cons because they felt that their plate was too full. They did offer complete refunds, even refunds for airline expenses (taking a loss on that one)

In regards to Robert Picardo, there are some mixed messages. I contacted the head of the con and asked him about this. He is claiming that they already paid him half of his fee and they have until Friday to pay him the other half and that his shooting schedule changed recently so he won't make it to a few cons.

Jumpcon is a new company starting out. I am hoping they do well since I would love to go to more than just one Creation con a year. So far they're off to a shaky start. My husband called the hotel in Boston to talk to them about the con. They said that all their paperwork and deposits are up to date and as far as the hotel itself is concerned the con IS happening. The nice thing is that they let people buy their tickets through paypal. So god forbid the convention gets canceled last minute and they disapear paypal WILL get me my money back.

Either way, I get 5 days off of work and a nice trip to Boston

:D

I was planning on going to both Cleveland (the big trek con) and Detroit, but I may trade the Cleveland con for a final trip to STTE. I really hope that everything works out!

What I heard regarding Picardo was that with any cancellations his contract says he gets 10% of his fee. I guess he never received this for the cons he was planning on attending that were canceled (a total of 8, but not sure how many he was scheduled for)

according to the guy who runs the cons who I emailed, Picardo had already been paid HALF of his fee before he had a shooting schedule conflict.

Ive heard quite a few conflicting stories between the actors/agents and the guy in charge, but I tend to believe the actors more (especially with several giving the same or similar stories)

well we'll see what happens. Since they let you pay through paypal, there will be no problem for my to get my money back

honestly part of me thought about getting a refund now, but how would I feel if I did that and the con realy happened and it was fun? If it doesn't happen I still get a weekend in Boston in a fancy hotel and a few days off work.

i just checked Robert Picardo's website and I don't like what he is doing. this is the new message he has posted

Message From Bob

A few Days ago I emailed the Jumpcon promoter for a status update and received no reply from him.
Subsequently, I posted some information here regarding Jumpcon conventions not meeting their contractual obligations.
It now seems Jumpcon has removed me from their site for the Boston event.

My goal is to always conduct myself in an honest and straightforward manner with every promoter and I appreciate those who extend the same courtesy to me

a few days before that he puts on his website that he won't be going to their cons, so now he's upset that they took him off the guest list????? In this case they did the right thing by taking him off the list instead of continuing to sell tickets for him when he said he wasn't coming to the con.

I think he's upset, because he said he wouldnt go UNLESS they met their obligations as stated in the contract. Instead of meeting those or letting him know that they wouldnt not be able to, they just removed him.

Jumpcon has bit off more than they can chew.  A convention company defaults on the actor, does not pay said actor.  I have also tended to believe the actor.  Some of the actors i know, the promotor will not tell the people paying to see the actor the real reason the actor is not appearing aka actor is sick or actor has a paying job.  I have already had that happen to me, I went to someone one and got the real reason.  One other reason that this has happened is that said actor has said something or done something that the promotor does not like.  Promotor will ban actor from appearing at any more conventions they put on.  I could name many names of actors that have had that happen.  One was banned because said actor would not do as they were told.  Actor refused to limit how many people that they autographed for, this was back in the day before you payed for them.  Limited line and then the line was cut off.  Actor was also told that they could not autograph at the table that they payed for.  Actor told convention that it was none of their business.  Convention banned actor, but actor told convention that they would not come back till they wanted too and actor said they would come back.  Slanted Ferdora went belly up, and did not pay some actors.  Fedcon USA cancelled their convention and did not pay some actors.  Vulcon is playing with fire again.  This is the convention company that was ran by Joe Moats, then no longer run by Joe Moats.  Now Joe Moats is back and running the cruise dept for the convention.  I could tell you volumes of stuff about Joe Moats.  Like I said believe the actor,  Jumpcon would not answer Robert Picardo so he called them on it. called them on.

This is why I love my local convention (motor city comic con) so much. They WILL give us the real reason, sometimes they even go into detail (Nana Visitor getting injured by a horse on the set of "Wildfire"), occasionally they'll post a message from the actor or their agent which is great! I think in the convention business, honesty can only help (unless you're honestly trying to scam the customers)

I think JumpCon had all the right and sincere intentions, but things are going downhill, because as stated before, they've bit off more than they can chew. I really hope this works out, because I'd like to attend 2 of their conventions!

They are only coming as far as the mid west, I am in CA.  I would love to go to, but drive.  Besides, have to bring the poodles with us.  I have friends that I would like to see.
