For those of you that don't know this, Star Trek Online may no longer be in Development. After a previous round of layoffs in December 2006, Perpetual underwent several further rounds of layoffs in September and October 2007, before finally announcing the indefinite suspension of Gods & Heroes to allow the company to focus its efforts on Star Trek Online. Subsequent to this announcement on October 10, 2007, Perpetual Entertainment Inc. transferred ownership of all its assets including Star Trek Online to Perpetual LLC, for liquidation and distribution of liquidation proceeds to creditors of Perpetual. Shortly thereafter, Perpetual Entertainment's IP was "picked up" by P2 Entertainment, though the management remained unchanged. On January 14, 2008, it was announced that the company was no longer developing Star Trek Online, and that the Intellectual Property license, as well as game content, but not the game code, had been transferred to a Bay Area game developer. In December 2007, a well-publicized lawsuit was bought by PR Firm Kohnke Communications against Perpetual. On January 24, 2008 it was announced that the suit had been dismissed following a mutual resolution by both parties. On February 25, 2008, it was announced by multiple sources that P2 has officially closed their doors. This means an end to all projects, including their planned focus on casual games. As the rumors continue to swirl about the Star Trek Online franchise, trekmovie.com is reporting that Cryptic Studios may acquire the license, as they're currently interviewing ex-Perpetual employees to move over to the studio in some capacity. Cryptic have been asked to confirm that they are working on STO and have denied that they are doing so. Also Reverb Inc, PR Company for Cryptic Studios has requested trekmovie.com take down their news story regarding Cryptic taking over STO, so perhaps the rumor is indeed just that -- a rumor. Of course, there is no concrete evidence that Cryptic Studios is producing Star Trek Online, and until they come out and announce it, there will be none. http://www.startrekonline.com still exists, but there is nothing on the page but the Star Trek logo and "Coming Soon". As for Perpetual Entertainment, their site no longer exists. StarTrek.com needs to update their site and no longer include anything reflecting this game. I was looking forward to this game, but sad as it is, I don't believe it will become a reality. There is always hope.

ok, i have been lurking on these boards for ages now and you are the only one who has tempted me to actually log back in here to say: WE ALREADY KNOW AND IT ISNT DEAD! PE sold the license, and all the current concept art and other stuff, to another bay area developer who is currently rumoured to be Cryptic Studios and alot of evidence is point to them and also the new developer had put up the 'coming soon' on Startrekonline.com, not PE and besides PE had in-game screenshots, dev diarys, weblogs and evena beta signup check out the Haling Frequencies board for alot more information as to who might be the new developer and also they are talking about the new annoucment of Star Fleet Command 4

The only reason I posted this is because I also have been lurking in these boards, and have come across many people who keep asking, "When is the game coming out?" "When do we get to try the beta version?" etc. So this is an indication to me that NOT everyone "already knows this". I'm one of the ones who didn't know. So I did my homework and just wanted to let those people out there that are getting anxious know what is going on.

Look again. I assure you there is clearly something suggestive there. Edit: Well crap never mind seems its for their game heros online when you look at that games homepage. Odd background though.

Let's see now, it's been over five years since this game was announced.
The game is basically at square one.
Let's all anticipate it's release around 2015.
Until then, keep the dream alive.
Maybe "Vulcan Fury" will be out soon to give us some thing to do in the mean time.

Well Cryptic Studios isn't PE, and they have better reasources then PE. At least they finished a game they started, and they are making a few more, so what does that tell you? The only thing they didn't get was the code, so what's the problem in that? It's not like they can't make their own code, and really why would you want someone elses code? Better to start fresh, so you don't have to figure out what the other guy did before you. Now I understand a lot of people feel this game will not see the light on day until 2012 or 2015, but I feel like we will see it much sooner than that. Cryptic is hiring more people on the project, and I am sure they want to get this game out sooner vs later. After all my feeling is they will give us a HUGE Anoucement once the timer hits zero, and who knows maybe it will be that they are in the beta stage on the game.

I find it interesting that the background for the countdown clock on the Cryptic Studios site is the same as the concept art for STO on other sites and it is also a piece of space concept art released from the previous STO developer, Perpetual Entertainment. The question is, does this count down represent the release of the game? Or most likely the official announcement that Cryptic is developing the game? I'm pretty sure it is the latter. It's not likely that they have the game finished by now. Another question is what is the big secret? If they are developing the game, why don't they just come out and say it? I just hope that this lives up to the hype, because there are going to be a lot of dissapointed people out there if it isn't. Here are some "official" screenshots of the game: http://www.gamespot.com/pc....s;img;1and here are some "user" images: http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/startrekonline/images.html?mode=userMost of it is concept art, and some are from "Enterprise". Some of the shots looks like another variation of the Sims games, while others look like they were taken from Starfleet Command, both games I never cared for. Hmmm. Some say that we will not see the light on day until 2012 or 2015, I'll probably be dead by then. LOL So until this becomes a "reality", I'm going to continue on with Star Wars Galaxies. Finally, here is something to look at. It's the Star Trek 3D Project. Just download it and play it. This is what STO should be like. They also have screenshots under "media": http://www.clickitaliansoftware.net/public/vgcgroup/ST3D/#

Well I believe the countdown clock is mainly for CS, that is when they will have a boat load of stuff to show us, and maybe have a date for the beta. I really believe the push is on to get this game ready by next year, that is when the new movie is do out, and they might want this game gold by the time the movie hits in the shows.

Won't that be a little quick for an MMO?
