I've seen a few threads around here (including some created by myself) asking whether anyone has read a certain book and whether or not they enjoyed it. I figured it'd be easier to collate all questions of this kind into one thread, so we don't have to make new ones all the time.

I'll start - has anyone read the TOS New Earth series? Is it worth trying to pick up for a TOS rookie?

I haven't read all of them. the only one I read was apart of the Gateways series, and I found it woefully dreadful. A definite avoid, in my opinion.

has anyone read: The Sky's the Limit? Is it as good as the Dominion War anthology?

Yeah, the only one I read was the Gateways series, too, and I agree that it wasn't all that great, from what I can remember.  I do distinctly remember saying to myself, "Please, let it end soon."  And I didn't have a clue who the people were and I felt out of the loop on some things.  I didn't understand why they were there or anything.  It probably would have helped had I started from the beginning but at the time I didn't know that it was a series by itself.

I have not read The Sky's the Limit, although I would like to.  It sounds like it could be interesting.

Has anyone read Enterprise: By the Book?  That one almost put me to sleep.  The characters didn't seem to come alive in my opinion and Archer didn't seem too much like himself.  The writing was okay, but I was waiting for a climax and just as in Silas Marner (although not nearly as bad), it never came.  Doesn't get a thumbs up from me.  How 'bout you?

Nope haven't read it. I haven't read any of the Enterprise books except for The good that men do I found that one to be quite good.

Has anyone read Strangers from the Sky? I found it to be an excellent book. Well written and well thought out, et tu?

I've read Strangers from the Sky and I thought it was good although I was occasionally confused and I'm still not too clear on some parts so I plan to reread it to straighten out my mind.

Have you Imzadi by Peter David?  I thought it was great, his books almost always are, although I thought he could have toned down some things.  I understand that it's mainly the love story of Riker and Troi, but really, I think he could have found a different way to handle way.  But, I still thought it was good.

I started those, got all of them as a present. and hated them.  I just did not connect with the characters at all.

Have any of you read Star Trek Log One-Five?

Yes, I have read The Sky's The Limit.
No, IMO it is not as good as Tales of the Dominion War.
TSTL is still very much worth reading though, some good stories in there.

TSTL looks to be interesting, especially considering that it is opening and closing with Holloway...anyways, tho BIC:

Anyone read "Surak's Soul"?

nope can't say I have...I've looked at it many times, but ENT books just don't speak to me as much as the others do.

I read the first and part of the third Dominion War books.  I really liked them.  My friend and her brother have read all four and they enjoyed them.

I am currently in the middle of Crucible: McCoy and I'm really liking it.  I was surprised that I like it so much, because sometimes I feel that David R. George III can be a little long-winded but I have found this book to be excellent.

Has anyone read Federation?  Is it good?

I have all four books, but skipped book 2 and 4 as they were just book formats of about 8 DS9 episodes that I have seen many times. I enjoyed the TNG books in this series, it was nice to get there perspective for a change and was interesting, I do reccomend those two.

Has anyone read Spectre? I have it in my collection but keep avoiding it

I've read Spectre, and it's really good!  It's the first of three in the Shatner-verse MU trilogy, and semi-unfortunately, IMO it's the best of the 3.
Helps if you've read the Odyssey trilogy before you get into this one.

Has anyone read Constellations, the TOS anthology?  It's sitting on my bookshelf, but I'm yet to read it.

If you're referring to Glass Empires and Obsidian Alliances, then yes, they are most definitely worth reading.
