There has been a lot of debates abou the book Before Dishonor" by Peter David where a main Star Trek character is killed off.

I found thos quote in a post in the Voyager forum:

:whatthe: :grr:

Another example of meaningless character destruction made only to annoy fans of the series!

If that's all that Pocket Books can come up with, then they can as well close the shop.

Let us make our own fan fiction instead! We don't need those hotshots who only are capable of ruining the fun for us and we don't need their books either. As long as they continue to annoy the fans with destruction of our favorite characters, there's no need for us to buy their items.

I find it funny that you are so harsh to judge a book that you said you haven't read. If you had you would have known that there is a huge gaping opening in the end for her to come back

nobody stays dead in Star Trek...you should know that

Yup, Lynx, congrats -- you've exposed our evil plan. Our sole purpose in writing Star Trek novels is to annoy fans.

but that makes no sense. Why would you write something meant to annoy the people who you want to buy your books????

Honestly, I've expected a more constructive reply.

If you visit my website and read the bookreviews, you'll see that I've given the most positive reviews to almost all of the Voyager books. In fact, I cherish them all.

If you have read some of my other posts, then you must have seen that I'm one of the few people who consider the "Voyager Relaunch" canon (something I've got a lot of criticizm for). And that despite some misgivings to the direction of the events in the "Voyager Relaunch".

Therefore it actualy annoys me when a main character is killed off in one of these books and it annoys me even more when it's revealed that the destruction of the character seem to be ordered in some attempt to "give the character a good sendoff". To be honest, there are no good sendoffs when it comes to main characters.

When I buy a Star Trek Voyager book, I do it because I want to read about my favorite characters in the series, not to see them killed off or given other "sendoffs". I guess it's the same for everyone who buys and read those books.

If you want to keep your readers, don't make them annoyed or make them feel insulted. Don't do the mistakes the producers of the TV series did.

Please don't try to speak on behalf of the readers when clearly, as Bekks said, you're the only one annoyed by this.

It's clearly obious that they are NOT killing off a character, instead they are just giving us a teaser of what they have planned.  Please think before you type next time ok?

Not that I'm defending Lynx, because that's not my intent...

But it is not clearly obvious.

In fact, it is YOU who should CONSIDER OPTIONS before typing.

We can only hope it's "clearly obvious", but until it's in print and clear as day...  Janeway is in fact, Dead.

Janeway is not gone for good.

Let's think about this for a second.  First of all Q is involved.  If Q is involved, we already know that things may not be as they appear.  Also, when she was told she was dead, she was in a white space.  Does that sound familiar to anyone?  How about the TNG episode "Tapestry" where Picard appears in a white space and Q tells him that he's dead?  Did he actually die?  Of course not.  Do you think it's a coincidence that both events happened in almost the exact same way?  I wouldn't bet on it.

I don't care what Pocket Books has to say about the issue, Peter David set in motion a new journey for Captain Janeway that we will see unfold in future books.

No, I'm not.

I've seen lots of angry reactions from Janeway fans on this forum and on other forums as well.

Then how do you explain Peter David's comment in the post I quoted?

As long as we haven't seen Janeway return and as long David's statement is not denied or contradicted in any way by PocketBooks or some other authority, I guess we must assume that he's telling the truth.

well, I owe you a great thanks for ruining the ending of Before Dishonor... <.< ....even htough I had read other posts about how horrible it was, they at least gave others fair warning that we were about to read possible spoilers...you on the other hand didn't. I'm now incredibly angered. Thanks. Hopefully God sneezes and you are blown into the Void.
