Ultimately it's the players themselves. The site can look awesome and the setup could be better than other sims, but if the participation and writing are weak, then the sim will be weak also.

I hate seeing players that W@nk the hell out their characters. Good characters are defined by their weaknesses and flaws, not on how tough they are or how much $hit they can blow up.

I agree, some of the best stories in history were wrote in the true aspect of reality. That sounds a little opposite for sci fi, but even it is based on the reality of having a deff. problem. If you present a story for which you already know the outcome....there is no excitement behind finishing it. If you present one for which anything can happen, then as it comes natural to us all, we want to know more. I believe that writers in simming should project the overall character and not just strengths. Even the borg have weaknesses, for example, they lack individuality, kindness, intuition, and sheer perception just to name a few. It isn't who can dominate, its about who can blend with the story.

the whole reason I asked the last two question was not to have peope start the bashing *cough* but to see if I could get productive things to get a SIM, that floundered twice, restarted with an idea that would actually work...

well i agree with you on people making super powerfull stuff without flaws, and making marines sounding out to be elite people.  Now I do have a marine simm and a ship with marines but the starfleet personnel is still there.  I kind of do it like how Halo video game is.  The navy personnel run mostly everything but they send in marines as special ops things.

Well here's an idea: The USS Independence (probably one of many others :eyesroll: ), an Akira class vessel is launched from the Atlas V Yards, in orbit of Denev V. The Independence (named after the millions who perished), launched a few months after the official end of the war, is placed under the command of a new and inexperienced Captain Heath Thein, a young betazoid who has lost many of his friends and family members during the war.

the Indy, will not be the most advanced ship in the fleet nor wil it be the most powerful, it will be that ship that lives up to Murphy's law (everything that can go wrong does). Condisering the lack of materials the Indy wil go out with incomplete systems and mediocre construction...Thus making the adventure aboard her a real party.

Your opinions? Is it feasible?

I agree, I think it is the players/characters and the imagination they bring.  I do like characters with ... well .. character.  I think they are more interesting to play as well as read.

I think that's why I like the Enterprise/Kirk era of trek the most.  All eras had characters in the TV/films but the early trek gas more, I think, character building - less technobable - type settings.

Amazing, you found a way to turn this into a recruiting thread ¿ . Just kidding, I thought the Independence was a great idea. There's already been some great character interaction. How often do you see a simm where characters yell at the counselor?

Oh, I agree, it makes for great characters. A whole shipload of post-traumatic stress disorder cases is what we've got on the Independence.
