IN your opinion, I know all of you have them, what makes a SIM successful? Is it the idea behind it? The people there? the activity? the looks? What makes it successful, tell us here.

personally I think it has to do with the idea behind it...

A combination of posting style (i.e: grammar, spelling, detail), look, people, time period, and activity.

The people and their writing ability make or break a simm, in my opinion. If the writing is good and the people get along and are creative, then I think you've got the recipe for a successful simm right there.

I think its the looks, and grammer and proper english, the story does matter but if you have good writing it kind of fizzles into the background.  The storyline is more like a stage and the actors is the ones that make the show great or not.

If the people and the members care about the simm and its success, also if there is people who add to the story often.

All good points. It's definatley the right members and the right plots, to me - as well as an interesting overall story, not some godmodded ubership on a five year Borg huting mission.

I think it's a mixture of activity, creativity (especially the GM) and enthusiasm.  Just my experience.

The Simming League has a lot of great articles and such about successful simming, etc.

Ultimately it's the players themselves. The site can look awesome and the setup could be better than other sims, but if the participation and writing are weak, then the sim will be weak also.

I hate seeing players that W@nk the hell out their characters. Good characters are defined by their weaknesses and flaws, not on how tough they are or how much $hit they can blow up.

Unless of course they are Marines!

Marines are a boring institution of Starfleet, for the most part. Blowing up crap. Whoop-dee-doo, they get to propogate the continued ideals of sole human membership (I've seen two marine commanders in my entire simming experiences that weren't fully human).

Hmm odd..I can think of at least three. All of which you should know.

Kep, the Klingon hybrid who used to be the Marine CO on the Adams, and K'Larri.

And someone has to fight, someone has to be on the ground doing the dirty work. Otherwise the Federation wouldn't exist.

The Klingon hybrid? One could never tell from his writing style, character's name, and well, even his lack of posting.
