I have been given the go ahead to check out the possibility of establishing a Colony simm for our Fleet.

THIS IS NOT A CURRENT SIMM

Now this is the theory.

Tierra Aureo is a colony far from the borders of the Federation. Many species make up the colony which is trying to escape from the world which has become so "civilized" that it is oppressive.

Due to the distance from the Federation the colony has been given a strong Starfleet Defense Force consisting of Marines, 1 Starfleet Ship, and a full squadron of Starfighters.

Tierra Aureo is located on the far side of the inhabited Alpha Quadrant. Out beyond the Tholian Assembly. The nearest major inhabited Federation planet is Cait, home of the felinoid Caitians.

Tierra Aureo is a planet with three continents and a very temperate climate in general.

It has 4 main oceans all with a blue green color as seen from space.

Most of the landscape is grass and forestlands though there are areas of mountains in places. There are several large rivers per continent. The most promising for a successful colony is the one that is situated furthest from the others and is the largest. It has the most resources and the most fertile land.

There is a massive array of flora and fauna. There are few to no large predators, though there are a decent number of food source type animals. Terran and other Federation territory flora and fauna samples have been transplanted to assist in the necessary minor terraforming to make it almost an exact copy of Terran weather.

Little to no harmful seismic activities or other weather anomalies have been found and with the placement of several WeatherMaster systems highly dangerous weather systems have been prevented.

The planet has a binary star, and the planet is one of 12 in the system. And one of 4 habitable ones.

The people of this Colony are Civilians though there will also be a decent number of military positions.

Ferasa, scooter.

And I might be interested, were the colony's military presence reduced a bit and it were ruled by a civilian government, perhaps even a nice little aristocracy. The fighter corps might actually have credence in the RPG, given that they might be small sublight patrol craft, 'cop cars' of the stars if you would. The simm could develop a nice mythology, with new races in the area being introduced, possibly even as rival civilizations to the isolated colony.

An interesting other concept to explore might be the control the civilian government could and would excise over the colony's defensive forces (The whole I serve on a ship owned by the people I protect thing).

The name came from the star chart I used to decide where it would be placed.

As to the other things. I have considered these things. Yes new species would be introduced, generally as traders and rivals for resources, etc.

Our defenses will consist of one ship likely one of the following classes:
Saber
Centaur
Yeager
Challenger
Miranda

A Defense Force of Marines, probably a company.

And a squadron of 12 fighters, likely made up of one or more of the following classes:
Intimidator
Eagle
Rogue
Valkyrie
Tiburon
Tomcat-Eagle variant
Zeus
Gryphon
Hawk
Banzai

From that last post of his, we might have to set up a colony of our own....

Geeze, is there such thing as an Ubercolony...?

This colony is far from the borders of the Federation

Its total defenses are going to be made up of between 75 and 200 soldiers.
12 fighter craft
and 1 light ship.....yeah ubercolony for sure.

The idea is based off the TOS book series: Wagon Train to the Stars.

It seems like a perfect home for a colony. But threats and problems are going to come from every direction.
From failing equipment due to the planet's unusual rainstorms to crop failures to the Tholians and other unknown species.

Crop failures? Why would that be a problem? There's such a thing as replicators...unless you're looking for that sort of vegetation. ;)

lol. Not really interested in that sort of vegetation. These Colonists are trying to avoid using some of the modern conveniences which have made life the way it is in the Federation. That is why they have went so far from the border. The only replicators will be those aboard the ship.

They are trying to live a simpler life. Somewhat like the one the Bak'u were living.

They have the ability to do things. But they choose not to use it.

Also I now have a possible candidate for the President of the Colony, Starbasecommander.

For a small colony, why not have a planetary council, and just call the leader of the planet a governor? I suspect that the colony would not have a terribly high population...Also, if need be, I have a forum I could volunteer for the simm, already set up and all.

Sorry SBR. That won't work. Fleet Regulations. And Tierra Aureo is Valiant Fleet.

Also the colony will be ruled by a President and Vice President. Then to keep them in check a council will have essentially the powers of our Congress.

Just without the powers of Congress. President implies federal powers, while a governor or even Mayor, gives not only a better frontier sense for the simm, but also is more correct and just...well, it fits. Presidents rule countries and school clubs.

I'm interested in the simm, so I'm contributing to the backing mythos in a structured manner.
