Am I the only one who would be interested in seeing Paramount contract Peter David to write a script for a movie or a television series from his "New Frontier" work? ¿Personally, I think that Captain Calhoun and his crew would make an excellent television series and a welcome addition to the Trek universe. I would love to see some new blood in the mix. ¿Why reincarnate Kirk again?(As Paramount is currently doing) ¿I am sure that his not-so-humble beginnings is interesting but please let the man rest in peace. ¿He has had his day. ¿So has Picard, Sisco (and I am a big DS9 fan), Janeway and Archer. ¿Calhoun has good buzz and Peter David is the right guy to lead the charge.

There are a lot of ST novels that concentrate on others in the Trek universe as well..IKS Gorkon, Corps of Engineers, Vanguard that could make decent if not great minis or tv series IMO

True! However, I am trying to establish a plethora of interest in the "New Frontier" series.  Paramount only speaks one language.  MONEY!  If someone can provide Paramount with evidence that investing in this project would be very profitable, then they shall make it a reality.  The only way that I know to do this is to rally the troops (if there are any) via this website.  I thank everyone who has taken the time to read my post.

I get what you are saying, but I wouldn't want a TV series to stomp on the book series (I wouldn't want it to just re-tell the story I've already read, or do a rush job of trying to get everyone caught up).  ...but a television series that is similar to New Frontier. Absolutely!

It would shatter the out-of-date TV Trek formula and have elements like:
- No character is safe from death or other life changing events (like evolution or devolution). The structure of the show would allow characters to enter or leave the show at any time. No actor's salary or ego could become inflated to the detriment of the series.
- The writer(s) shouldn't be afraid to jump the story ahead in time, having us catch up with them after some of these life changing events, really shaking up the dynamic of the show.
- Characters actually get promoted and given commands of their own, yet they (and their ship) stay in the show. (Starfleet ships have similar designs making it easy to redress a bridge/engineering set to look like another ship)
- Characters might switch sides. If main characters resign from Starfleet, they may not come back by the end of the series, much less the end of the episode.

Similar elements have made other shows (like 24, Battlestar Galactica and Heroes) successful. Network execs shouldn't be afraid of long story arcs.

I was actually thinking the same thing! Having a movie/TV series of New Frontier would be a wonderful idea! And have you ever seen the picture of Captain Calhoun on the cover of the Captain's Table conglomerate book? He looks almost exactly like Joe Flanigan of Stargate: Atlantis fame! It would be perfect if they could get him to play Calhoun. :D

I like "artrobot's" line of thinking, however, Paramount usually engages in 7 year contracts with its actors.  Therefore, over-inflated salaries and egos come with the territory of a highly successful series.  Also, due to the fact that Peter David is a stellar writer, I don't think that he would need to regurgitate the book series all over again just to catch others up. He can write fresh material for the television series.  Only those of us who have read the books would know the origins but the general audience won't care because the episodes will carry themselves.  After all, it is Star Trek.  There will be plenty of time to delve into the characters background. Some will remember Shelby from TNG. Calhoun is a Captain like know other and I think that people will enjoy someone who kicks tail and gives Admiral Jellico ulcers.

TO: Everybody.
FROM: Chrisjamwood.

¿ ¿ I've been working on a Star Trek story for awhile now. It is going to be set in the future of the current Star Trek films, seires, and books. I hope all of you would like to see such a work in the process. Thanks.

P.S. Tell me what you think about all this.

Chrisjamwood - You could always submit it as a short story to the Strange New Worlds contest.  Maybe there would be enough interest to get more of your work published.

^ Actually, he can't. Volume 10 was the last in the Strange New Worlds series, and Pocket isn't doing the contest anymore.

I think New Frontier is the best way to make a series based upon the prime universe that will get people interested in Trek again.  Best series ever and should be considered canon!  I think an animated series would be better however since David's aliens would be too complex to be done right in a live action show.

I really want to talk about new frontier so I am trying to reignite this thread.

Anyone else on these forums love new frontier? Who likes Calhoun's command style? I enjoy the aliens Peter David created, especially the Brikars and Redeemers.

I'm open to discussion topics. I've read all the books twice.

I was upset when Si Cwan was killed. I felt he was too important to the series.
