Hasn't been one in Tucson for years, either.  Do you think it has anything to do with the actual state of Arizona?

I guess. One would think with Phoenix being one of the biggest cities in the world that they would have at least one convention here every year.

Conventions aren't automatic...

Some one in the LOCAL area has to put up the front money and do the set up work.

Creation did a show in Mesa in 2004 and the main headliner was William Shatner.  Based on the size of the room,  I would say there were about 750 - 800 tops in the room. I don't think Phoenix has a big Sci-Fi fan base.

It sounds more like a catch-22 situation. ¿Would-be promoters won't shell out the bucks because they think there is no fan base, and there is no reason for the fans to come out if there are no conventions.

I think there are plenty of sci-fi/horror/fantasy fans around both metro areas(Phoenix & Tucson), but there seems to be nothing organized where they can come together and show their numbers.

Best bet might be to show up at the Phoenix Comicon that happens in late January.  If all sci-fi/horror/fantasy fans show up at that, it could persuade the more timid promoters that they should start testing the waters with other events.
