You're assuming that they wouldn't take slaves if they came here. ¿We might be the perfect thing to ¿use to mine some ore they need or whatever other minimal grunt work they need. ¿Slavery could very well be a secondary byproduct-- as it was in much of our own world's explorations-- of their coming here.

No it would imply that they don't have a FTL based drive, they might have power sources well in advance of fusion power still yet. ¿ And by design a Generational ship would have to be hardened against much more than a nuclear blast to survive a longterm interstellar journey.

if they could star travel or even space travel mining ore on a planet is waste, a single asteriod would provide more mineral wealth than what could be found on the surface of our planet and would be far easier to get to for a space farering culture.
Slavery is not a by product of exploration, in the USA slavery was introduct to till farm lands, slave were brought from africa not from the conquest poeple.
Spain enslaved natives to mine for wealth, as soon as the silver and gold was exhaust slavery stopped.
But in the case of the USA it was the industrial age and the increase placement of machines in manufacturing that made it less attractive to have slave.
If aliens need manual labor it would be far easier to paid us to do the work than to conquer us and maintain a constant vigil against slave revolts.
As for nuclear power star drive, Nuclear power is already used to generate power for civilian use!!! Bad example. Even fusion power is being develop for same use...!!!!
While nuclear reactor on board ships are standard light water reactor used all over the usa and canadian manfacture by GE!!!
Also design for nuclear power aircraft , trains and even aircraft are already in existant. What prevent their use is the hazard of nuclear radiation and the weight of shielding require.
But that has not stop their use where there is no danger of exposuret such as nuclear power Pace makers implanted in some peoples chest.
while the fear of Nuclear power has dampen their use, the reality of Global warming has once again cause a demand for more and more use of Atomic power. Here is a perfect case of Usefulness over coming culture taboo and fears and if we ever get back to the moon, He2 would allow us to build Fusion reactor that could be used in your car, since the fusion cycle of He2 give off no hazardous radiation.
While the whole taboo things is nonsense, they would have a taboo to using robots but not one against using what would BEM (Bug Eye Monster) !!!
