i heard that legeacy messes up hard drives if your running vista as your platform. is this true? if it is i don't want to mess up my nice computer.

No, dude. How could it? It's a game, not some kind of application that seeps its way into your important system files.

Well here are ways that a game can screw up a computer:

1. Corrupt a Kernel File
2. Corrupt the timing mechanism on the harddrive reader (forcing it to spin faster than it should, it's happened - or for that matter, the DVD reader)
3. Corrupting the timing mechanism in the processor (overclocking it)
4. Flooding the Ram/Upper Memory which may cause read errors and what not.

1 used to happen quite a bit more often than gaming programmers want to admit (verant got in serious trouble with shadows of luclin when the expansion patch corrupted kernel files).

2 and 3 are very rare.

4 happens often than you'd realize, but people don't always notice it.  Severe cases can cause damage to the processor.
