Okay, get this. You're approaching the speed of light. You come within a planks time/distance of i (without your mass reaching the chandeskar mass limit and collapsing into a black hole). Now apply the uncertainty principle, quantum flucuations. Is the ship slightly below the speed of light, or slightly above it? With some form of advanced computer system, perhaps the ship can start depleting energy in one of those split seconds when you're above c, then it's a nice quick trip thru the tachyonic-verse to wherever it is you may be heading.

the uncertainty principle just means, you can't know both the position and velocity of a particle.

Think about it...

the uncertainty of position for an object the size of a space craft is extremly small. So small that it would not allow you to go ftl. Particles like photons and electron can, this is seen in quantum tunneling where particle have been clock at X17 the speed of light due to this effect. Note the distant travel is general a fraction (h/2) of the particle wave lenght, a ship wave length is smaller than the dimension of the ship so it cannot take advantage of this effect.

And the fluctation in energy occurs in an time interval so short that conservation energy is preserved, any energy that you could exact would then draw energy from the ship kinetic energy ( this is called Uruh effect) and would result in the ship slowing down..

In a similar vein, if you could extract energy from the space surrounding the ship, you could up the value of C causing the ship to go FTL than the surrounding vacuum. See the following article on the matter:

it also applies to an object energy and momentum which are depended on and object velocity and position..
