Actually, there is a note on the Vulkon site about how they have rooms set aside, but it is sold out to the public. I called them yesterday, and told them I would be there for the Vulkon event, and they got me a room with no problems.

Shoot!!!  They didn't even ask me that.  I told them it was for Vulkon and they told me it was sold out.  I guess I gotta try again!

Oh boy, I'm not sure what happened but I will tell you the gist of last night's conversation (5/21).  The lady I spoke to was from reservations and was really very very nice and informative, and when she told me there were no rooms available for Vulkon, and hadn't been for quite a while, I mentioned (without names) that 'someone I know' just called and got a room.  She told me that was impossible and asked me if I knew your name and if you recalled who assigned you the room.  I told her I didn't know either of those answers.  She then told me basically what she told me last week, that the rooms had been sold out for quite a while (though there is another gathering of people and they are hoping to use any rooms not used by them to pull folks from the waiting list into the hotel that weekend).  She did say it's possible someone gave you a room who shouldn't have because they didn't check and that it is a paper/clerical type error.  She figured you might want to call back and verify that you do indeed have a room because she was concerned about double booking you into a room you aren't supposed to have and may not have when you get there.  Kinda like airlines selling a seat to one person and then reselling it to someone else later on only to tell the later person "tough luck" when they came to claim their seat.

So I suggest you give them a call back and confirm your room, that you are most definitely going into a room during that weekend in that con hotel.

Meanwhile, I am still on the waiting list and we shall see what happens.

Thanks for the heads up. I called them Sunday morning and made the reservation, then I called them back Sunday night just to confirm everything and was told everything was good to go. I'll call them again, but this strange.

Yes, I agree completely.  It's strange.  Because I called twice on this like I said before and both times got told the same thing about being booked.  I did confirm the date and the event and she knew what I was talking about.  In fact, she informed me the hotel was getting calls for rooms for Vulkon before she was aware the con was going to be there and at that time (back late last year some time). She was pretty adamant about the fact that you never should have gotten a room so recently unless someone made a mistake (and that's why she wanted your name because she was trying to find out who was doing this...face it, if they keep giving out rooms when none are available, they'll have lots of angry customers!;)

On the other hand, I'd hate to have you call up and find out you DID get a room and they take it away from you cuz someone made a mistake.  That would be such a bummer.   :whatthe:

So I guess it's up to you.  I want the con room but am content to walk across the street.  At least I've got 2 rooms reserved there.

I just called. They do have a room reserved for me. They said that whoever took the reservation may have seen a cancellation and didn't know that there was a waiting list, but she assured me that I do have a room reserved for July 13-15.
She said for you to keep checking back because there were some other groups that had reserved a block of rooms that wasn't filling up. But if you are already on the waiting list, then they will probably call you.

I guess I just got lucky.

Oh DRAT!!!  Well, okay, I am happy for you that you got that room.   :)

But I'm not happy I wasn't quite so lucky.  Then again, I shouldn't complain.  I've got 2 adjoining rooms right across the street and yeah, I am on the waiting list for the con hotel.  And she did say the same thing to me...about that grouping of rooms for a different gathering not being filled up and probably having a # come open before con time, at which point, those on the waiting list will be contacted about them.

Well, if for some reason they screw up and I don't have a room afterall, I'll probably be begging you to let me sleep in your bathtub!!!  :whatthe:  :bugout:

Let hope it doesn't come to that. She said everything was fine and that I definately had a room reserved.

LOL!  I'll see what I can do to accomodate you, though you better start praying these rooms across the street have a tub instead of a shower or you'll be a little cramped.  And bring REALLY BIG ear plugs because my husband snores REALLY REALLY loud!

Your husband is going to get to go? Excellent!!! I thought you said that he couldn't get off work. I'm glad he worked it out. Unfortunately, my wife can't do this and Vegas both, so guess which one she's doing? She's not a "huge" Trek fan, anyway. I can imagine that if he's a big fan like you, it would be hard listening to you tell about a con he couldn't go to. That's great news! A buddy of mine is think about going, so it may be a guy's weekend out.

We are still up in the air about him being able to get off of work.  He won't know for a week or two.  So we'll see.  His plan as of right now is to go.  If he can't make it, my close friend is going with me anyway so I'll have company on the road (along with my kids).  My girls are teens and have never been to a con (not since they were kids).  So this will be an adventure for them.  Plus my older one is planning on getting some driving experience in, in the process.  My younger one is looking forward to meeting John B because she says she wants to meet a 'real' (as opposed to fake?? LOL!;) character actor who is successful at it!  She loves acting and is a true character actress in the making so I guess she wants to meet folks who are succeeding at the craft.

Sorry the wife can't go to this one but we'll probably bump into you at Vegas ourselves.  That one my husband is going to even if he has to quit his job to do it.   ;)
