I heard a nasty rumour that Perpetual Entertainment is ditching the ship interiors now for a more focused combat style of play.

Is it true that NPC ships will only have the bridge and is it true that the ships we will be on will no longer be fully explorable?

If you have proof that the ships ARE FULLY explorable, can you please provide any links?

Here is why I am asking..

Justus Bela:
Is it possible for me to move free on the ship on which I'm captain or crewmember or do I have to stay on my console or station?
[darons] Space gameplay will from an exterior point of view where you?ll have the best understanding of the tactical situation. This is a result of gameplay testing where we determined that playing from a interior point of view put the player at a significant disadvantage.

The above quote tells me we cannot navigate the corridors of the starship...even during battles.  Come on.  If this is true, this game just lost most of the magic for me.  If I wanna see my ship during combat all the time, I would play EVE or Star Trek Legacies.
Thanks

Unfortunately it's true.
Daron let it slip in a recent interview.

Which we've discussed it on the boards here in this thread
http://boards.startrek.com/communi....69;st=0

and it's a major thread on Sto.net

There's quite a few replies from Daron and a new dev Perpetual Motion.
Check the dev tracker to find them http://www.startrek-online.net/message....posts=1

MANY people are upset with this. The hub ships namely the Galaxy and Sovereign classes will have full interiors to explore not just the bridge, but PC ships will not have them at release, supposedly postponed and will be reconsidered afterwards.

heh, I suppose you could start by reading the topic right below this one:

New Interview from Startrek-online.info

That should provide you with the information and links.   ;)

Wow.  Magic lost for me, too.  It's a good thing, though... I only own a Mac and don't intend to part ways with it anytime soon!  :p

From what I read, the only time they talked about fully explorable ships was about two and a half years ago in the first interviews they gave when they had just got a hold of the license and were chucking ideas out of the door before pre-production even got started. Apparently the case now is that the fully explorable interiors will be delivered on so called 'mobile hub ships' while player owned ships are operated from a 3rd person point of view by multiple players in a group, I'm interested to hear how that's going to be achieved.

I can live with it so long as I'm able to wander the corridors of these 'hub ships' they have described and do the kind of mini missions one would expect of them there, STO has a lot more potential than being a game about working inside a starship so I'm not overly disappointed by this, I want to know what it is they intend to do otherwise though- I certainly never expected some kind of ship interior simulator, that novelty would only last so long. Hm, we'll see how this goes.

This is surposed to be an RPG, we work together to archive things, fans alike you no... instead the captain will probably be in control in all areas of the ship, his duty is surposed to be giving the orders and everyone else following them, it's called I surpose (Team Work) instead we have to look at a space battle, granted it may look cool but I would rather be on bridge looking at the view screen and being given orders from the captain on what we would do. Correct me if I am wrong, but that is acually what Star Trek Online was intended to be, an rpg.

Wow. Does that mean engineering is no go? Will you be able to work acutally in engineering or are we not going to be looking inside the ship at all?

You'll be able to explore the insides of large hero ships, do all your fantasy missions in engineering, sickbay and on the bridge, drink synthale and play chess in ten forward. This issue has been spun up by trolls like Kareal and her crew at mmorpg.com out of a comment Daron Stinnett made about how player operated ships would be conrolled during combat, from a 3rd person perspective. He even followed up the question about that with an answer about how player ship interiors aren't ruled out at all, after the first false assumptions arose.

Children are dead before they're born. Does that make them any less valuble?
