Shatner sells signed photo's on his website @80.00 each. The way I see it is that there are 3600 seconds in an hour. Say it takes Shatner 2 seconds to sign a photo. That's $144,000.00 an hour he's making (1800 @80.00) . I know time is valuable but that's ridiculous. I was thinking about going to a convention but its all based on making money and commercial commerce. Honestly I would feel like I was being pimped if I paid for an autograph. Just my opinion ?:O

Wow, I'll sell you mine for $20.00 and it won't be a mechanical reprint like Shatner's! Buy more than one and you will see - no one can sign that identical twice - and for eighty bucks "I could have a Bud, cigs, soda, hamburg and fries and still get a cheap chick!" What do I want more, hm, this is why I ask, "Cal-Con thinks mech signed photos are tacky...TACKYYYYY." So, to come to Cal-Con in August 2008, what would the fans want as a package bonus rather than tacky mechanically signed photos like you're the only one to have one?"

Autographs mean nothing to me. And the Trek sigs are a dime a dozen anyway, how many thousands and thousands are out there, real or mech penned, from the endless conventions that have been going on all over for, how many years now ? Thier value is nil really except to those who cherish them for whatever personal reason. Now if I had a personal letter signed by someone like Abraham Lincoln or Hitler, it may be of worth for historical sake and the rarity, but Bill Shatner..not.
I do have an email Stevie Ray Vaughan's mom sent me some years back after his death, that I cherish and it was free and from her heart.
I'm more into collecting action figures, I guess I'm not the type to get gaga about "celebrities", they are no better then you and me, why would I pay $100 for their scribble. So I guess its a matter of what ever turns ya on. I do have a Spock 12 inch figure on pre-order (due out in Aug) which is $125, some may think I'm nuts ! ? :)

Will they sign something you bring, like an action figure or something? Does that reduce the price at all? ;)

The autograph coupon will get one item signed. The Stars sign their name and nothing else at least that's how it was in Vegas you gave your item to be signed and the star signs it. I was lucky I has a coupon for Nimoy and Shatner they were signing together at the same table so My DVD was signed by both and Bill autographed the Denny Crane Photo I bought from creation. So I got a bonus Bill

By the time I get done with all the autographs I want and all the Star Trek junk I'm going to end up buying I could have gone to Europe for a week.  This is my first convention so I hopes it good, or next year I'm going to Ireland ;)

I have been to several conventions in the last 17 years. At some, the guest would sign for everyone attending at no charge. At others, the guest spoke, but did not sign for anyone and there was no option. With the birth of ebay, the celebrities quickly saw that they were signing items at conventions that we being sold for large amounts online. It doesn't take a genius to realize that if you sign an item for free, and it sells on ebay for $50-$200, then you are being taken advantage of. As long as people will pay for the autographs, the celebrities will continue to charge. I don't think most of the stars mind signing for people's personal memorabilia but people trying to make a quick buck have ruined it for all of us.

Most conventions include at least some complimentary autographs with admission.
