I read all of the novels the day they are released. I just finished reading "Into Darkness" (Alan Dean Foster TRIED in vain to make the ridiculousness plausible). I am really looking forward to the next ENT novel, "Rise of the Federation".

I just finished Encounter at Farpoint.  It was a really good novelization.  I was especially impressed with how it was able to keep the pace of the story up, even better than the episode itself in some places.

I'm now on ST:TNG #1 - Ghost Ship.  It's quite good so far!

More than halfway through TNG: Ghost Ship, and wow, has my opinion changed.  I started off liking it a great deal, and as the book has progressed, it's gotten quite poor.  I realize it's an early book, but the depictions of the crew are so far off from the show, it's a bit bizarre.  The author is trying to deal with how the crew adjusts to each other, but there's so little resemblence to how they treat each other on screen, it's like they're different characters.  The portrayal of Riker is particularly bad.

I plan to still finish the book, but I hope there is a significant redeeming of the characterization in the last 100 pages or so.
