Oh I trust the authors to enlighten new aspects of the Borg and Q themes. And do not forget, it was Q and the Borg, that pretty much shaped TNG and made TNG what it was. I think that both aspects are a superb way to celebrate the birthday.

Not like this is breaking news, but startrekbooks.com has updated their "Coming Soon" page with this: Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Buried Age Just good to see it there on the big page. Hope an excerpt comes soon. I'd like to know what all that structure is behind Picard on the front cover... P.S. That's a very First Contact-ish like spacesuit he's wearing....... they had the same ones before "Encounter at Farpoint"?

Huh? Uh, no. After the first season, Roddenberry's declining health meant he had less to do with the day-to-day of running the show. The Borg were the creation of Maurice Hurley. Q and the Ferengi were both Roddenberry's, but the Ferengi were disasters as a species until DS9 came along. The only thing GR really deserves kudos for is Q.

So does the relanuch start with "Death In Winter" or "Resistance" (picked up Resistance tonight, might go back and return Star Wars: Legacy of the Force - Inferno and get Death in Winter if that is what starts it. I figured that picking up Resistance might be best as the back described it as JLP having the Enterprise fixed and getting the new members fo his crew and trying to get Worf to be his XO.
Would one "need" to read "Death in Winter" or is "Resistance" a good starting point as well? Would I be okay with reading Resistance and perhaps going back and reading "Death in Winter" later on or does one need to be read first before the other?
I missed out on the beginning of the DS9 relaunch and didn't follow the Voyager relaunch when it started. Rather start off TNG relaunch correct from the start.
Thanks.

I'd start with Death in Winter, as something major happens at the end that would be spoiled if you started with Resistance.

I'm fairly sure it'd be a good idea to have read the A Time to... series as well.

Why when it seems the books and series are post-Star Trek Nemesis? Shouldn't that series and last movie be all that one really needs (key point being here "need" to read not what might be a good idea to read)?

ah hell, I'll add to that and ask are there plans for near-future VOY Relaunch books?
To further specify, have any authors out there expressed interest in continuing on from Spirit Walk? |
It doesn't seem like there are any plans for 2008 to have any Voy books....but we realy need an end to the Spirit Walk books

In theory, you shouldn't need to have read any particular Star Trek novel to understand another, as relevant information should be included in each book that you read. However, because many of the novels are now being linked more tightly in a shared continuity, it will enhance the reading experience if you've followed the progression of the narrative through the earlier books that lead up to the later ones.

Ah I see. I understand now. Thanks . I've always been used to Star Wars novels for the most part since from the start they were apart of a shared continuity and it's good to see Star Trek going the same route. Though ST doesn't have a strong movie and novel connection the way Star Wars does. For the moment I think I'll start with Star Trek: TNG - Resistance and when I get a chance I'll trying to pick up "Death in Winter". Since Trek is trying to be more strong continuity wise when it comes to novels does that mean that there is a strong effort (a team or group sorting things out, etc) to make sure that the DS9, Voy, Titan, etc and now TNG relaunch novels all sync up for the most parts when it comes to events the way Star Wars is sorted out?

^ Yup. The editors act as the go-betweens and institutional memory, and we lowly scribes are in touch with one another, trading scenes, manuscripts, outlines, notes, etc.
