I am opening this topic with a thrill of anticipation. After I have seen the cover works for the 3 coming relaunch books, I cannot wait to read them. What do we know about the new crew of the Enterprise? Picard is and will be the captain (won't he... ? ) Worf will be his first XO (according to memory-beta) A Vulcan will be the new counselor Geordi will remain on his post What about helm, tactical, medical and OPS? Here are the four covers of the relaunch books: 1. Death In Winter2. Resistance3. Q&A4. Before DishonorI created this teaser wallpaper for the relaunch. The Sovereign mesh is made by CG from the bcfiles.com forums. TNG relaunch wallpaper 01Enjoy! Big update 3/14/2007: TREKMOVIE.com has posted an interview with Simon & Schuster editor Margaret Clark about the TNG relaunch! Be warned... some spoilers inside: | Quote | | In the past we were discouraged, but now there is more cross continuity. That is what Star Trek fans want, they want the books to mirror the experience they would have had, had the shows continued on. |
In addition to the new continuity, Clark is also trying to clear up some things with a bit of ?retcon? such as why Worf is back on the Enterprise. "I can explain that," enthuses Clark. Apparently there is also some kind of thread arc that runs throughout the 20th Anniversary novels as well. These kind of arcs are already common in the DS9 book, which follows from how the show itself was arc driven. Even though the TNG books are now dipping their toe into the arc water Clark says that it isn?t to the same extent as the DS9 books, noting "you can still pick up any of these books in a store and enjoy it without reading the others." Another change in store for TNG is a move away from technobabble and technical solutions and more towards character. Clark feels that you don?t need to explain everything in detail, joking "how do Heisenberg compensators work??.very well thank you." The editor feels that there has been too much of a reliance on technology and it really doesn?t belong in the novels, saying

Are those the final covers? Looking good if they are. As for the positions that remain open, i guess we might have to wait till the first relaunch book is on sale. I dont see Worf being XO tbh they might give it to someone else. Im sure picard will stay on as captain, Legacy takes place shortly after NEM and you got the feeling he wanted to continue aboard Enterprise for a while longer

Seems to that they are.
I just keep wondering why they choose 7 of 9 for the forth book... Picard would have been much better. Does this mean 7 of 9 is now part of the Enterprise crew?
How many books are planned beyond "Dishonor" btw? And are those three books going to have a continuing story arc?

would be interesting if 7 of 9 was part of the Enterprise crew, seems like she would be filling in for Data's absence, perhaps Voyager will play a part of this novel, i duno just a speculation or maybe we find out what happends to borg after S7 of VOY unless that was resovled in Homecoming as i've not read those 2 novels yet

Dunno either. But Resistance and Before Dishonor seem to be about the Borg. So you can bet they are back!

Yeah it is but i think this might have something to do with that happened after NEM, perhaps touch on B4's fate, i know Articles of the Federation mentions he's at the Daystrom Institue so it might work on him being transfered there, i'd personlly want to see B4 stay on the ENT E

Anything is possible with Q I don't know, if I like the idea. If done right, it would be cool. The Picard/Data combo was IMO the center of TNG.

Hate to verge off topic, but the Picard and Data relationship was never that important in the series. The movies put them together because they were the fans favorite characters. Back on topic, these new novels seem good. Any DS9 characters in them?

Hmmm... Remember all those scenes Picard and Data had together in the show?
It was not as prominent as in the movies, but the scenes were there.
Think of "Unification" for example. One of the best character interactions (and one of the funniest) is aboard the Klingon ship.

There's lots of speculation here, and I'm not answering any of it, because I want you to read the books. I will say this much: regardless of what Memory Beta says, the question of who is the new first officer of the Enterprise-E is a plot point in Resistance -- although the question will be answered by the end of the book. And Data died in Nemesis. Though that doesn't necessarily mean we won't see him in one or more of these books. Doesn't necessarily mean we will, either.................
