We may not be ready just yet.(well most of us) Think about it Aliens have been abducting people for years. They are the ones they send back to prepare us for their main arrival. And you can't forget Roswell. Their are numerous sightings all over the world. Hey maybe they'll make contact on the day that is supposed to be the last day of the world.

Guys...I hate to break it to you....BUT: First contact has already occurred on this planet. If you guys actually kept up with the news, you would know this already. The trouble with contacting a primitive race such as ours...which is still using nuclear weapons on this planet....is the whole idea that maybe WE are the ones who are FEARSOME to them because of it. We radiate our own ATMOSPHERE. This is kind of DUMB...so the parties involved are taking utmost caution with our planet in this situation. If you don't want to believe it...fine. I can tell you this though. There are plenty of people among us all who refuse to talk about their own experiences with E.T simply because people will ridicule you and put you in a mental institution because of it. And only because THEY are ignorant themselves. It's just the truth. But of course...many of you will continue to scoff simply because it has not yet happened to them. - Q http://axisandallies.ez.yuku.com

If the world just learned to work together we could dramatically accelerate our advancement... We'd be able to develope technology such as warp drive, time travel and what not.
Then maybe other alien races would have enough respect to make first contact with us... Just like how the Vulcans only contacted humans after they invented warp drive.

well that will most likely never happen, and if it does it will take the end of the world. The fact is that religion and personal grief gets in the way of every major cooperative act in history. JSYK

I disagree. Necesity is the mother of invention. Many of our major technological advancements come from war. Working against each other is most likely better for the human race than vice versa. I do not think that an alien race would be more intrested in us just because we had warpcapability. They would more likely be seeking out cultures that are curious than highly advanced.

I'd rather have no war and global co-operation, albeit at a slower rate of advancement, possibly, than constant war. Did you know that the Earth was known to be a sphere many centuries BC and it's circumference was actually calculated in the 2nd century BC to within a few percent of its actual size. It was people, bent on keeping people ignorant and dominated, who chose to force this knowledge underground. The Burning of the Library of Alexandria was the final straw and it wasnt until the Renaissance that things got back on track. Just think with no war, no subjegation or intolerance to learning where we could be now?

You got that right.. Just take for example Galileo in the 16th century, the Catholic Church almost had him put to death for just suggesting the Heliocentric Theory.

Yeah, change scares people, and while the world likes to remain ignorant to the possibility of anything new, we are making headway though. Physics is now a platform of learning and people have began to accept theories that would have never been accepted 80 or 100 years ago.

The people bent on keeping people ignorant tried to unite people under different religions etc. They wanted to keep people ignorant because then they would have their very own truth which they could impose on the people, thus, as the borg queen would have said, "bringing order to chaos". They were right because if we had answers to everything we would not have conflicts. How ever theese answers must, to be real answers, come from enlightment. Enlightment comes from resolving conlifcts and straightening out questionmarks. This could and can be done with out war but war usualy speeds up the process. The bottom line is conflict is not the answer but resolving them is.

I think humanity might be ready in a 50 years or something. But I don't think the US (CIA; NSA) would do em any harm. They would perhaps be the first talking to the aliens. But perhaps they wouldn't tell anyone cause they don't want global panic! Interesting. But maybe NASA would tell anyone.
