65 years ago this morning the Japanese struck Pearl Harbor. Over 1,000 of the sailors and officers of the USS Arizona still rest with her at the bottom of Pearl Harbor. This is the most fitting day I could think of to release this new ship. She will never match the glory that the real Arizona held and still holds today. She will never mean that much to anyone. But she will be a legend in her own way. I put aside all differences with everyone who I have RPGed with in the past. I want the best of the best for this RPG. I want to make this ship one more reminder of our brothers still resting at the bottom of the Harbor. Some of you undoubtedly have family there. Still at their posts these many years later. You deserve positions aboard this ship more than any.
The USS Arizona is to be launched December 7, 2441. The 500th anniversary of that great ship's demise. There will be a memorial service for those who died then after the ship's launching. The ship's motto is simple. "Liberty and Justice For All, At All Costs." This ship will embody what the soldiers of World War II died for. Freedom, Happiness, Justice, and their country. In this case the entire Federation.
The ship will have a detachment of the Star SEALs aboard to help her through the more difficult situations. May we make their souls rest well.

Such a noble cause. I will join, but give me a lower-down position where I won't need to be on all the time, because I am a very busy person and can't always be on.

The great time for battleships emerged after the spanish-american wars when the united states built a fleet of ships that would "patrol the world"... soon after the navys of many other nations emerged with large ships with heavy fire power. The great battleship race emerged during the early twentith century when many nations including Japan, United States, Germany, and the United Kingdom began out-building each other. Limits were emposed but not enforced after the first world war forshadowing a second world war which brought the naval battleship to the front lines of many operations on the sea.
Perhaps the greatest advesary of the battleship was the submarine or U-boat which could come in undetected, as radar was in its preliminary stages and untrusted. However, the shear size and hull armormant meant that u-boats and submarines needed to hit harder and faster. The airplane was the best bet during world war 2. Bombers and planes with torepdoes were used heavily by the US and the Japanese.
The assualt by the Japanese on pearl harbor utillized a sort of wooden torpedo that would skim the surface. The fate of the seas would become more heavily dependent on more advanced models of the torpedo still used today. (And of course theres the Quatum torpedo as seen in star trek)
However, the big battleship became less an effective naval strateogy and more of a costly floating target. Smaller vessels with missles and rockes as well as the jet launching pad such as aircraft carriers were more practical.
In the future one might see a return to battleships should armor improve beyond the reach of ones weapons. Anywhere you need to get in close and blow the "crap" out of the other guy and take a few hits before moving on would seem to indicate the need for such a vessel.
I would expect your ship is not based on speed or agility like a smaller vessel, but rather like a large mobile tank able to give more hits and take a few herself. Good luck to you, USS Arizona NX-1271941

What would be the equivilent of the aircraft carrier in Star Fleet?
The star base is more of a port... and the shuttlecraft on board vessels are more like the row boat then anything. It would seem that the future does not utilize fighters heavily. Which could note something about futuristic space warfare. ¿Possibly becuase a fighter might not be able to pentrate a ships shields?

while it was never actually built i read somewhere that there was a design for a large Fleet Carrier type ship. It wasnt designed anything like a conventional ship in Starfleet design style. It had a bow sort of like the Pasteur from All Good Things. There has never actually been an aircraft carrier equivalent ship built in Starfleet. However the Hydrans (another race that isnt mentioned but once or twice.) make great use of fighters and nearly everyship is equipped with fighters as a supplement to their shuttles in combat.
While it is named after the battleship Arizona the NX-1271941 is actually a heavy war cruiser. which is sorta like a fast heavy battlecruiser. It is the best combination between the speed of an Intrepid style ship and the firepower of a Defiant or Sovereign class

Ah. I had seen the Hydran ships in the Star Fleet Command game, but I never knew they actually existed in Star Trek cannon.
