Alright so after going out to a party with some friends I'm ready to voice my opinion on the Jersey convention that I drove an hour and a half to get to. First of all, I said this to some other fans at the con, the supporting panel of guest actors
sucked ###. Just about all were only in 1 episode of trek and they were all the age of my grandma. I mean c'mon.
You had Barbara Luna old as hell showing breast and all. Im all about some skin but when its someone who has more
wrinkles than a dachhound- its disgusting. Then that romulan chick from the tos episode "The Enterprise Incident". Another grandma with little contribution to the franchise. And 2 other grandma's I can barely recall.

I have to say one of the most unsettling aspect of this and the conventions I've been to is when your out on the vendor floor. Your out there browsing around and these "has been", "never was beens" are sitting around charging $20 an autograph. Not many people approach them and I get this feeling as though I'm in a zoo. You're staring at them from a distance, but are hesitant to make eye contact. I so badly wanted to approach one of them and just want to say "so what have you been up to." haha. It's embarassing. I love the conventions but this one had some real crap supporting guest members. One unexpected guest was Suzie Plakson. I saw her sitting at her little table and kept wondering who the hell she was? And then she stepped away and I took a glance and realized who it was. She looked horrible. Her face looked nothing like what I was used to from the shows.

Then on to the main guest. Kate Mulgrew. When I first got my con tix I was pumped to see Avery Brooks, then when I heard the days were switched I was slightly disappointed. But it truly wasn't that big of a deal. I couldn't head out on friday becuase of work anyhows. So she came on and did her little pre-speech, and then took questions. Luckily I got to ask my question. I actually left slightly earlier than I planned cause all the questions seemed the same. I cannot begin to tell you how many variations of "what was your favourite moment in voyager" or"what was your favourite episode of voyager" there was. It was stupid. I usually try to ask something everyone would want to know. So I asked: "When Enterprise was cancelled we were told that star trek would be taking a somewhat long breather. But with the changing of powers at paramount we are being given a new movie in 2008. Do you feel that this is too soon, since Enterprise only ended a few years ago---AND--- if the movie fails at the box office what do you think the IMMEDIATE future holds for the franchise? Now it may seem long, but if you repeat it to yourself its not. First she launched into the whole thing how the new movie is a prequeal with spock and all. Then (this is where she got weird) she was like what was the other part and I repated it and she repeated no like twice which made no sense to men, and then went into how good sci-fi would be around for a while and that she thought Star Trek needed to go fowared, not backward. Then she looked over at me as if she needed to know if it were good enough, so I said "but do you think it feels rushed?" She totally disregarded it and said "I think there ready for a voyager film" Which is fine but I was with my fiance' and I got a weird vibe from Mulgew.

Later on on the ride home, my fiance' came out and said what I was thinking. She got the vibe that Mulgew was #####y. It shocked and suprised me cause I thought the same thing. She just seemed like it all was bother to her. At least to me. I left a little earlier then I would have becuase all her questions and answers had to do with either A) politics-which i give 2 ####s about, or B) feminism stuff. She came across rude to men in my honest opinion and seemed gung ho on feminism. (nothing wrong with feminism, but if your going to act rude to the people around you its for the birds)  It totally took away from the event, in my mind.

Now I've head people complain about the Creation Conventions and i see why.
#1-They show those music videos, but you would think with what we have nowadays they would be good quality. There not. There the same crap ### VHS (looked like they were taped off of tv) music videos weve seen for years. Are you telling me they can't re-make the videos by cutting up the DVD copies that are out there now? I mean cmon! Oh and please spare me that TOS blooper reel. What a pile of crap. You cant even hear half of whats going on and the variations are ridiculous cause many of the scenes are the same.

I just expect more.

(Oh also as a side not: there was this British guy there, looked just like Picard. So i thought Cool!. Turns out he bought the Schinzon nemesis coustom from Christies and Mulgrew pointed it out during her QnA. So naturally people went up to him and asked him whatever. So i was on my way out and went up to him to ask for a picture with the suit. And in a rude manner he told me to wait till after kate was done. Yet right after i asked, some other people bothered him and he was fine with that. The fellah was prick. And i would like him to know that. If he reads theses boards or whatever I want him to know he was a douche bag and a true fan would not be so disrespectful to another.

Anyhows till the next CON, Live Long and Prosper!!

----Oh yeah and the Vulcan freedom fighters or whoever they were SUCKED. 20 minutes of my life wasted!! Avoid at all cost!!!

The only reason boobs were mentioned were because Luna totally had them exposed in that get up she was wearing, and on top of that she mentions that she's got a new calendar where she shows some skin. Just hearing that made me shudder. Yuck.
I've grown disappointed with the way creation handles there conventions. It's no longer about the fans celebrating a great franchise like it used to be, instead it's all about getting you to empty your wallets. As for the extra guests I think they need to find some better. Suzie Plackson (however that's spelled) was a good step in the right direction, but they made no mention of her at all and she had no stage time. ( at least not the day I was there) .
Many of the vendors are just straight out creepy.
Mulgrew just came of somewhat rude in my opinion, as though she was better than everyone, and I didn't care for that.
And as a little side note, Richard Arnold is a real douche bag. He acts though he's a now-it-all and also came off rude. I think creation needs to leave him home next time.

But it was better than sitting at home doing nothing on Saturday.

I am veteran of about 20 conventions, the decline in quality over the years is indeed depressing; -I am talking about the conventions themselves, not the guest appearances. Creation really doesn't seem to care for us NYC area fans, and someday I hope to attend an LA or Vegas con to see how they treat the fans they appreciate.

I thought Ms Mulgrew was articulate, intelligent, well spoken, and every bit as beautiful as she appears on TV.
I did not necessarily appreciate nor agree with her political and anti-male comments, but hey ! -That's Kate ! -She is who she is.
And of course, the female guest stars of 40 year old television show would be of "Grandma" age - I am not sure what the first poster was expecting; -perhaps he should have gone to a StarGate convention, or a convention with Blalock and the Orion Slave Girls as guest speakers. -I for one love seeing the stars of my favorite Star Trek series, and hearing them share thoughts and experiences. And Suzie Plakson is as gorgeous today as she was on all of her appearances. What a delightful surprise to see her (she was NOT advertised) and a shame she was not offered the opportunity to speak (hers was by far the most popular table of the guest stars)

The "British Dude" always wins that damn contest; in fact he goes through a few costume changes throughout the day, and is treated like a celebrity by the fans. I think a handmade BY A FAN costume should have won the contest. Not a PURCHASED studio prop purchased for $3000. And speaking of which, why would that "British Dude" even need the $250 Creation Dollars, when he dropped at least $5000 the seen-on-screen costumes he purchased. ¿I wanted that Mirror Mirror chick to win - she was gorgeous, as was her costume. And the two people dressed like Alex Monroe - THOSE were well made costumes.

At least were on the same page somewhat. I was wondering as i drove home saturday if that guy would win the costume contest and i too thought it was unfair if he did. You should have to put some effort into your costume and not drop however many thousands and win. That is cheating. The conventions have gone down hill. And as for my grandma mention, they could do better at providing quality guests. Chase Masterson for instance, is a supporting guest who contributed more to the fanchise. Thats what i meant. Jeffrey Combs is another one who comes to mind. I had never met Kate before and was disappointed in the way she came across. Me and my friends, when were bored at work or whatever, always play that game where you name a star and say what you think they would be like if you met them. And i would never have pegged Mulgew as someone that would have ended up in the negative catagory.
But anyway, yeh that british guy shouldnt have one, he has money. And the quality has gone down, big time.

Upon further reflection, judging by a major demographic of the people there, I think they should have reconsidered putting a vendor table selling sprint (nextel or whatever) services, and replaced it with an L.A. Weightloss table. Haha. When I first got there I wasn't sure if I was at a Trek convention or a casting call for that tv show "The Biggest Loser" hahaha.

Seriously though- that's funny-I don't care who you are, haha!

First off its  important to note that the stars in the dealer room, PAY CREATION TO BE THERE, they are not sought out by the company. I enjoyed seeing the older actors esp Mr. Jefferson from the original BG.

What annoyed me BIG time was that the big stars didn't personalize the autographs. It didn't say it on the web site (if it did I still would have went and not have been pissed about it). And its a bit of a surprise because when you ask sports stars "could you please make it out to John or Mary" they prefer that because they know your not going to just throw it on ebay or add it to your vendor table collection.

The guy said "it would take 3 times as long!" SO!!!  Charge me more- contract them for more time  I would have waited. Let be honest  Creation only comes to NY/NJ ONCE A YEAR and when are we going to see Shatner again?!

Kate and Avery were so wrapped up in being brown or a woman  it kind of took away from it  bit what the hell, I know most actors are libs.

It was my first con and i  really didn't see the whole "community" aspect every one talks about. I did talk to some very nice ppl and had fun

Also as a side not that British guy who looks like Stewart spends a lot of time in a wheelchair for real! So many ppl bothered him for pics and god forbid you buy the guys a drink!!! I thought that was unfair. I was talking to him about the Cristie's auction and every 5 sec  "picture please"

I had an pretty good time. The dealer room was small so I guess creation hates NY lol

I'm sorry you had a rotten time.  I almost went (as I live in the area) but decided that the Vegas con I went to in August would be it for this year.  Perhaps you can come in '07?  We really had a ball.

I don't understand what people expect out of Conventions in 2006...how many events have you attended where the lines are out of control and it takes 3 1/2 hours for you to get 5 seconds with the actor...and you walk away without a photo with your favorite guest to boot.

I admit...they move you around like your cattle..and the personal nature seems to have been removed from conventions. But...this is how they make thier money...charge premium price for less than you want. Ofcourse they only contract the guests for 4 hours..If they do any more time than that they cant rake in 300% profit on those Gold Packages you all pay for!!!

I like that I didnt have to wait in line for longer than 20 minutes to take my picture or get my autograph from William Shatner...nothing sucks more for me than waiting forever...and contrary to what most people have said..Shatner actually was pleasant and spoke with me for a moment and shook my hand. I guess it depends on what you expect out of it. Ive attended at least 40 conventions and autograph events over the years of various genres and Creation has the best system for the Guests...unfortunately the convention itself on every other front had nothing to offer...the dealers room sucked...the events in the ballroom sucked and you pay top dollar for a cumilitive time of 25 seconds tops with your favorite celeb.....WHAT ELSE IS NEW!!!
I guess when i frame my autograph and photo-op and hang it up I'll have to create a grand story about the fullfilling time i had with Bill when people visit my home and ask about it...cause if i told them the truth they would say "Why did you Bother?' :eyesroll:

You shook Bill's hand?!?!?  How did you pull that off. The staff didn't let me get near him. They ripped my pic from my hand then handed it to me and pushed me along.

And yes I would have waited 4 hrs for a personalized autograph.
