One thing I hate about the game is you can't see the detail on the ships. They look so small and I have a big tv. I really enjoy playing the NX class. I can't wait to get to the Sovereign Class.

sovoreign is probably the best ship in the game, along witht he defiant (if u know how to use the defiant its amazing).

I'm in the United Kingdom, so a week today and I'll have Star Trek: Encounters and I have to say I'm so excited about being able to play as the NX-01! Watching such a gorgeous-looking ship blast the hell out of the Xindi during Season 3 of ENTERPRISE was good enough, but controlling it yourself? I'd call that heaven!

Its actually very complicated to learn how to control your ship in that game. I own a copy here in Canada.

Yeah, but I've spoken to a wide range of gamers about this. Usually (and there are exceptions, so I apologise if this is you) it's the PC gamers or fans who just "had a go" on a PlayStation2 who have difficulty controlling Encounters. Seasoned PlayStation2 veterans who just happen to love STAR TREK (like myself) and have never played a PC game before in their lives seem to have little fuss about the controls. So hopefully... *fingers crossed before arthritus kicks in after Friday*

I got the game yesterday and it took me a good ten minutes before I was comfortable with the setup. This is longer than usual.

However, I've got the hang of it now and it's okay. I can't think of another way they could have assigned the buttons, to be honest. Once I figured out that you didn't need to keep R2 held down to keep a secure lock on the enemy, using my right index finger to snap between R2 (lock) and R1 (fire phasers) made holding the controller much easier.

I had to buy another freakin' copy because it took 30 minutes to load the main menu, the general loading times were horrendous, and the sovereign missions would not load. :grr:  Otherwise, I love it. As someone else above said, Sovereign is best but Defiant is great if you are experienced with it.

I heard there were some terrible bugs in the NTSC versions of the game: a friend of mine called Bethesda Softworks customer support and they replaced the bugged disc with a perfect new copy... try that if you're having serious problems.

My favourite ship would have to be the Intrepid-Class USS Voyager because she's fast, packs a decent punch and looks awesome. Second favourite would be the Galaxy-Class USS Enterprise-D, followed by the NX-Class Enterprise NX-01 (low down because of her blind spots). The Defiant-Class is a nightmare: steer clear!

Defiant is good if you can use it
Sovereign is my favorite ship.
But if you are good with intrepid you are untochable. in onsolaught I beat the default high score by 10 fold. JamesTKirk aint got nothning on me. I was 500 million points on my first life out of three. I had to lower the sheilds and let them kill me so I could save my score. I dont even think I got hit with one torpedo.

P.S. - The controls are fine, Just play through the game and you will think so too. The warp conduits can be a pain but learn the corse and it is all good.

I forgot this was for complaints - OK, The lowest Default high score is Ezri Dax. I could think of 100 other officers more deserving than her. Oh, You cant play as the large borg cube wich is a shame.  And in head to head with friends all Alien vessels are far inferior to the Starfleet vessels. No point in playing them. No original enterprise - just the refit.

I love this game. I finally get to command the ships of my dreams.

Sometimes I found it helpful to keep my ship flying "up", as well as keeping the sensore slice active & to the front, this had the effect of making the camera zoom out to catch everything...

It does mean holding R2 & the right thumb joystick thingy for long periods of time, but it helps a little.

to be honest with you I thought the game was terrible, even for a cheapie. I bought it recently and took it back 24 hrs later. it was so tedious and boring to me. I think Bethesda can do better than this, and i hope that they do in the future.
