Okay, pick a ship, gather all the pertinent details about it, post a thread here with why you like it, and what you want to see done with it in STO, comment on other's choices.

NOVAClass (Defiant Pathfinder) Science Vessel / Scout Ship.Commissioned : 2369 - 2370, (or currently still in production), class remains in service (and seen in future history up to 26th century in upgraded form)
Dimensions : Less than half the length of an Intrepid-Class starship. Similar in size to Defiant.
Length : 165 meters to 180 meters depending on source
Beam : 62 meters to 85 meters
Height : 34 meters or more
Decks : 8 (at least they've got that nailed down.....)
Mass : 110,000 to 127,000 metric ton
Armament : 11 x Type VIII, or Type X phaser arrays (8 on primary hull, 3 on secondary hull 2 Standard photon torpedo tubes,
or 3 tubes (2 forward, 1 aft)
Warp Speeds (TNG scale): Normal Cruise = 6 Maximum Cruise = 7 Maximum Rated = 8 for 20 hours.
Refit Cycle : Minor = 1 year Standard = 1 years Major = 6 years
Crew Compliment: 80 officers and enlisted
DeckPlanDeck 1: Main Bridge, Captain's ready room. Possibly space for small conference room.
Deck 2: Impulse drive reactors, mess hall, crew quarters
Deck 3: Cargo bays, deuterium tanks, transporter room, crew and officer quarters
Deck 4: Main shuttlebay (2 shuttles), Sickbay (forward of shuttlebay) with EMH, escape pods, main computer core access, Waverider, auxiliary deflector, crew and officer quarters
Deck 5: Docking ports, warp core access (** text puts forward torpedo launchers on deck 4 flanking the secondary deflector dish, visual deck representation looks like they are on deck 5 of secondary hull....another discrepancy....)
Deck 6: Main Deflector, crew quarters, small cargo storage
Deck 7: Tractor beam emitters, main engineering, workshops
Deck 8: Antimatter storage, landing struts, environmental systems
Ship has only 1 centerline Impulse Engine located on Deck 2 yet is still a quick manuverable ship (due to small size), a small crew complement, and no onboard holodecks. The ship is equiped with both a primary and auxilliary deflector dish (secondary hull and primary hull). Despite the small size of the ship, the Bridge is of a fairly spacious size.
The
NOVA is equipped with landing struts to facilitate planetary landings.
Emergency escape pods: 20 in total; 14 located on deck 3, four on deck 1 and two on deck 2.
Quarters: No large quarters. The majority of the slightly-larger-than-standard quarters are located on decks 3 and 4 (some sources say 1 and 4, typo?), with standard ones located on decks 2 and 6. Senior offiers get slightly larger than standard quarters (estimate 10 larger quarters total).
Auxilliary Craft: 2 shuttles and one foreward ventrally docked Waverider craft (similar to Aeroshuttle or Runabouts in capabilities). Workbees stored in the cargo bay for use.

This ship is small enough to be nearly completely modeled on the interior for STO players. Adequete speed, abilities, and defense. A great little starship to try most missions for beginning crews. Probably have the look and feel of the interior of the NX-Class ship as seen on ENT. Have all the key areas to adventure in except the holodecks.
Ship this size would normally be commanded by a full Commander (or "new" Captain since ST does not use Captain(JG) rank). It would be considered a good first command for an up and comming officer on the Command Track.
His XO a LT CMDR, Department heads LT CMDRs or LT's, remaining officers LT's and a few Ensigns (very few ensigns, and no Midshipmen...a ship that far out with that few crew will want some experienced officers along).
A guesstimate of the breakdown of the crew compliment, according to other sources as reference, might go similar to this:
Command: 6 officers, 1 yeoman - CO, XO, Chief helmsman, 3 helmsmen
Operations: 8 officers, 8 enlisted - Chief OPS, 3 operations officers, 2 ordnance officers, 2 communications and computer officers
Sciences: 7 officers, 14 enlisted - Chief Science Officer, Chief Geology/meteorology/geophysicist, Chief Astrophysicist, Chief Botanist, Chief Archaeologists/Anthropologist, Chief Chemist, Chief Astrobiologists
Medical: 1 officer / 2 enlisted - Chief Surgeon - with Psychiatrist training (supplemented by Emergency Medical Hologram), Nurse, Pharmacists Mate/Medic
Engineering: 7 officers / 14 enlisted - Chief Engineer, Asst. Chief Engineer, 4 - Engineering Officers, 1 - Transporter Chief (enough for 3 damage control/emergency repair teams - using 'off-duty' personnel (command, operation, sciences) to suppliment the teams while at "Battle Stations" - while still manning engineering systems).
Security: 4 officers / 8 enlisted - Chief of Security, Tactical Officer, 2 -Security Officers ( Two 4-man security teams, or broken into 2 man security elements for Away Teams).
A small and easy enough ship for new guilds, small groups or even individual players to try and master .....simpler...less deadly?....missions in STO. Not just science, survey, and scouting related missions either.... a little ship like this could handle custom's inspections and common smugglers, conduct search and rescue missions (although, not capable of taking on large numbers of survivors), conduct lower (lowest?) ranking diplomats and messengers on missions, run supplies. Most missions.
IMHO, a perfect starship for use in STO.
