How could creation Ban other star trek activities? I think that only Paramount/CBS could do that!

| Quote (stngaddict @ Aug. 26 2006, 7:33 am) | | I was a little frustrated at the lighting. I was in row L, captains chair ticket, and I understand the need for people to remain in their seats so there isn't a huge crush of fans trying to take the celebrities pictures. But for God's sake, for those of us a few rows back, increase the lighting so the pictures we do take are of decent quality. Last year Patrick Stewart was there, and the pics that I have of him are somewhat dark. Also, quicker signing for some of the guests. Again, I was in row L, and last year Avery Brooks took two hours just to get to our row. |
I was never insulted more that what that puppet show did to all of us. It was absolutely horrible and gay bashing. We deserve to be entertained, not shown a 9th rate wanna-be-a-producer Puppet show. I want a refund bcuz we should not have had to pay to see it, you should have paid us, and I would still have said "NO"!! The narator said the audience would be the ones who decided which people would win the costume contest, then he ignored the crowd when the wanted 3 contenders to make it to the last round of the costume contest. Not cool. The champagne was so bad, my kids wouldn't even drink it. Do we dare attend the next one in Sacramento? only to get more of the same?? Tisk-Tisk

Next time, show us some laser lights etc. Instead of the stupid, waste of time & money, Puppet show. Replace it with a display of inovative new technology. There are plenty of geeks which would have brought their stuff if you had a contest for such devices. Filling the time with what you showed us was very unprofessional and hurtful.
Please explain, because I question your motives.

I think that'd be very popular! And Engineering competitions. Another idea: At the Harry Potter event I went to, people were assigned to the different houses, then issued lanyards with those colors. All weekend there were fun little competitions that earned points for your house. So right from the start, you had a connection with people wearing the same color lanyard (and a friendly rivalry with people wearing the other colors). Convention organizers could issue wristbands or some such indicating your "allegience." Of course, the Enterprise fans would be outnumbered, and the Niners would be smartest.... (Ducking and running away)

Firstly let me say that my wife and I had the greatest time in Vegas... Unfortunately it wasn't because of the convention, but because of all the people I met... If it wasn't for these new found friends the trip would have been a dud...
My wife and I came all the way from Australia for this convention and high expectations... Those expectation were dashed from the very first night... Before I get into bagging Creation I will say that they do one thing very well... They have an uncanny ability to gather together all the stars... Be that because they pay more or just happen to have the right connections... Unfortunately that seems to be the extent of what the do well....
I'll try and go in chronological order of the various complaints...
1) The Las Vegas Hilton is by far the WORST hotel I have ever stayed in... I have stayed at Rodeway Inns that are better... The staff are at best indifferent and at worst rude... I won't bother listing what happened, but it has been sent off to Hilton... I will NEVER stay there again, regardless of how convenient it is... Creation need to seriously consider an alternative venue...
2) Pre registration was a shambles... No signs in the Hilton so you knew where to go... No signs in the convention hall so you knew where the line was... I think the only reason they actually started the registration was because the line actually ended up in the Hilton and they must have complained... Once you finally got to the front, they were consistantly telling people to go to the worng lines... I would over hear people trying to figure out where they should be and jump in and point them to the right line... After a while people were coming up to me for directions because they could see I was actually doing something, unline the Creation staff...
3) Then we went into the dealers room to get a few autograph tickets that I had forgotten... My god the line was only 20m line and it still took over an hour to get to the front... They only had three people serving... They needed more than twice that... Then they told me Walter Koenig was no longer signing, only to find out later that was a pile of crap (I luckily managed to get tickets anyway)...
4) The dealers room was a joke... Most dealers didn't have signs to say who they were and didn't know who any of the other dealers were... What was the point of getting freebies if you couldn't find the dealers? We gave up in the end...
5) The chocolate party... Well what a waste of time... The food was crap... Has no one ever noticed thr Hershey bars taste like vomit? The quiz time was kinda fun though... Really if it wasn't for meeting up with some new friends and having a nice long chat with Armin Shimmerman, I would have walked out after 30 minutes... There was no themeing, no atmosphere... It didn't feel like trek... It was just a bunch of people eating avergae food in a cold featurless room... VERY DISAPPOINTING...
6) The main hall... Well we paid for Captains Chair tickets, because Gold was sold out by the time we founf out about the convention... Well I wish I only paid for Preferred Seating... We had that damn cameraman COMPLETELY block our view for the whole convention... Many people around us complained to Creation, and they didn't care less... They couldn't even be bothered trying to pretend they cared... We had to watch the main screen for most of the con... At times there were seats empty around us that had slightly better views, so we move to them until the actual owners showed up... They could fixed it so simply... Build the stage higher up for starters... Use better cameras and move them up on stands to the back wall... Those two things alone would have improved the convention greatly....
7) OK on to the controversial suject of photo's... You take your photo's from your seat or from the side wall and NOWHERE else... It is beyond rudeness to do anything else... People have paid HUGE money to be at these conventions and don't deserve to have their view blocked... and before you say it's only for a few seconds... A few seconds times hundreds of guests adds up to a VERY LONG time... I was disgusted at how thoughtless people were in this area... We paid well over $10,000 to attend this convention, the whole trip was much more, by the time you add up flights, accom, tickets and food... I was also disgusted that the bulk of the time Creation did nothing about it... However they did jump on people with video cameras... You would think that poeple who live and breathe Star Trek would be a bit more evolved and considerate than they were... Very dissapointing... Having said that, if Creation had set up the hall properly then people taking photo's wouldn't have been such an issue...
8) Autograph lines were chaos... They needed to patrol them more and have them roped of... and yes some signs would be better... I nearly missed out on my Conner autograph because Creation were not announcing things properly.... Oddly the photo lines seemed much better organised...
9) Again the food at the Friday night party at Quarks was pretty bad... Though it tasted much better once I was drunk... Chase should NOT sing OMG... If it wasn't for Robert Picardo the 'entertainment' would have been woeful and I would have preferred to just go out on the town with my new found friends...
10) We only did the Sunday breakfast, but wish we had done the others... The food was about average, nothing special but adequate... I didn't try the coffee so I can't comment... Very expensive but I guess you pay to see the stars not eat the food... The stuff going up for auction was a joke... Again only the stars and out new friends made it worth attending...
11) Refunds or lack thereof... Creation have a legal obligation to provide a refund for a service that they cannot provide in the fastest possible way with watever means at their disposal... So since they could debit money from my account electronically, I fail to see why they could not credit it... They flatly refused to refund me there and then until I explained to them their legal obligation... Their attitude is what you expect of many businesses... We have your money now, good luck trying to get it back... You expect better of a company that espouses Star Trek ideals...
12) Saturday night gala in the main hall was actually pretty good apart from the problems I had already pointed out... The dessert party was pretty average... The improv was great, don't get me wrong, but the rest of it was crap... Bad food, bad themeing and no atmosphere... It was just a continuation of the theme for the whole convention...
Well I think I've vented enough for now... I'm sure I'll think of more things later... Basically Creation cannot organise a piss up in a brewery...Some of the 'volunteers' are fantasic... Most of their 'employees' are rude ignorant pricks... The only reason I will attend another Creation event is an excuse to meet up with all the friends I have now made around the world... If it wasn't a Creation con then that would be better...
Actaually I'm out of time but have thought of a few more things to say... I'll them later...

Hey there how you going?... I take it you don't want a copy of the puppet show now you've seen how crap it is OK thought of a couple of other comments... Mostly a back up to what some people have already said... 1) Some of the rooms were empty by day... It would have been great to have had a HUGE projection screen playing random Star Trek episodes in those rooms... If there was no one stage you wanted to see, you could have grabbed a bite to eat and plonked yourself down and watch an episode or two... 2) The theming was very poor, really non-existant... A cheap way of doing some decorating would have been to have multiple projectors aimed at the blank walls... They could have shown anything, photos, star trek wallpapers, general space themes, even just some swirling color would have added something... Take a look at the Planet Xpo convention... I'll think of more later Also as some of you know I have my own forum... www.trekcon.com It was originally set up as an a way of getting together with people going to the can before the actauly event... It was a resounding success and many of us have made life long friends as a result... So if you are planning a visit to a convention in the future and want to meet up with fellow trekkies/ers then come and visit... The board is a living entity and is constatly evolving to suit current conventions... If want sections added in for a given event, then let me know... Now that original reason for the board no longer exists, it needs to evolve or close... So here is my ideas on what it should be in the future... 1) A forum for convention goers to provide feedback to convention organisers on how well they are doing or not... Not just Creation, all of them... The various organisers will be invited to ave 'official' representaion to answer any complaints or suggestions... It will be moderated to prevent spamming and flaming... So all comments should be costructive and open to polite debate... 2) A forum for convention organisers to inform convention goers of upcoming events, or even just to guage demand for one... Not just in the USA but all around the world... Are you a small club and want to organise a con, then announce it here, guage interest, or seek help here... 3) A place to meet fellow convention goers and make plans to meet up with them at the event... This worked very well for the 2006 convention and in fact made the trip... We now have a private forum for those people who met up in Vegas and are now making plans to meet each other again... and we're scattered all over the world... 4) A place for fan clubs to host there own forums... If you have a fan club, but don't know how to start your won forum, you can request a private forum on TrekCon... Basically it will be visible only to your club members... You can discuss whatever you want there as it will be moderated only by the club... None of this has happened yet... It will over the coming weeks... As I said the whole board is open for comment... You want to see something added, just let me know... Sorry that was abit off topic...
