We had a ball. ¿My only disappointment was that a couple of the stars had to start bashing the president. I don't care what their politics are but this was a trek convention and it shouldn't be political. ¿We walked out on George Takei when he got into his tirade. ¿The guy in front of us just gave him the finger but he did have his cheers. ¿Mostly the stars were terrific. ¿Here are a few of my pics:

¿ ¿I saw the Sisko look-alike running around with a terrific Picard look-alike. ¿I didn't talk to them though. ¿There were many other awesome costumes too. ¿The Borg queen was my favorite as well as an entire family of Andorians. ¿

¿ ¿I loved the fact that this group of people was so incredibly diverse, race, age, you name it and they were there. ¿Avery Brooks by the way was very gracious as was Jefferey Combs who did his whole "The Founders are wise" routine just for me after the photo.

Yeah, it is rough that they think that future Treks should deal with leaderships that use their power to erode certain "unalienable rights" that the constitution of America guarantees us... Poor babies... : (.  You would have had to listen to a full 5-10 minutes of them talking about the problems that future Treks should deal with.

Btw, did you watch DS9?  Do you watch BSG?  Did you watch TNG?  Did you watch Babylon 5(which almost parallels what has been happening in the U.S.)?

Because... they all dealt with the same issues Takei and others talked about...  I guess you aren't much of a Trek/Sci fi fan... Why did you spend so much to go to a convention?

It saddens me when people refuse to hear any views that they disagree with.

I just don't care what the actors's politics are that's all. ¿I've been a lifelong trekkie, ¿watched the original series
as a teenager and went to college inspired by the show to get a science degree. ¿It is a remarkable series. ¿I also did a profile of the religion of DS9 versus Christianity:God Vs. the Wormhole Aliens¿which is kind of fun and also not meant to be political and I am not pushing my own faith. ¿

We had a truly wonderful time at the convention but I still think the politics spoiled it a little for us and others that believe entertainers should, as someone once wrote, "Shut up and Sing". ¿

Live long, prosper and enjoy life. ¿It's too short to be angry. ¿

What makes you not care about their "politics"(they actually just answered what they thought should be dealt with in future trek) but care about all of the other stuff the actors talk about including religion, their spirituality, their family, etc?

There are plenty of things they say that I don't care about, including their religious views, etc, but I don't go to a messageboard and complain or walk out during their talks... It would kinda defeat the whole purpose of going to a convention if I walked out as soon as they said anything I didn't care about...

For example, Avery Brooks often talks about his spirituality/religion, including this con.  I personally find religion/'spirituality' to be hogwash... but I don't go to messageboards to complain or walk out on his appearance.  I love Ds9/Avery Brooks... I just ignore some of the nonsense he says : ).

Especially in these 2 cases.. where we KNOW Brooks will find a way to talk about his spirituality and Takei to talk about his dislikes of the way things are being handled now in America.  Both of these responses were prompted by questions and easily led them into their respective views being voiced.  Who cares though?  Enough to walk out on them?  That is just a complete overreaction and lame.  Again, why bother to even go to a convention if you just walk out if anyone says something you dislike?

I was there also, and I too walk out on George Takei. I was very angry for the way he trash Bush! Nobody knows how hard it is to be a president.   I now hate Mr. Takei. I came to convention to celebrate Star Trek, not Politic stuff.

Do people really think that science fiction exists in a bubble? No, good science fiction (and "Trek" very much at the forefront) is a reflection of policy, social mores, etc. To take that away from the discussion ignores what's so valuable. I didn't go to a convention to be coddled with little stories about how funny it was when Shatner ran into a sliding door for the 100th time. I went to a convention to get to know more about these people and hear about how they fit "Star Trek" into their lives. Again, how refreshing to hear people speak with passion, from the heart, instead of just follwing "the script."

Well said.

Unfortunately, many people simply refuse to hear anything that they happen to disagree with.  I'm not talking about switching your view to theirs.  People just do not want to hear anything nowadays that may fracture their insecure view of the world.

And before someone tries to throw that back at me.  Remember, I did say that I find religion/spirituality to be hogwash, yet had no trouble with Avery Brooks or others expressing their views.  And ironically enough, I loved DS9... ESPECIALLY Bajor/The Prophets.

I'm not American, so I couldn't care less what anyone says about their own elected officials.

Then again, I couldn't care less what people say about my elected officials.
