Whichever ship/fleet you choose, there are some very good writers and plenty of people that will help you learn the ropes. My advice is to go through the sites, read up on what you can and determine the style you want to write in: 3rd person or 1st person. I only know one fleet that writes in 1st person: ST Federation . We have five ships, a starbase and the shipyard. There are only ten positions on each. No marines, etc. except as NPCs (Non Playing Character). You must pass through the academy. But that's so easy.... (Tell 'em Dr. Lucilla Cose sent ya.) We need a Chief Medical Officer on the USS Relentless - Bravo Fleet. I'd do it but I'm the XO (Executive Officer). There's a couple of other positions available also. Stop in and look. We don't have a standard academy, we teach you as you go. We are just starting out on our shake down cruise. Which means you'll be getting in on the ground floor. Good Luck & Good Hunting!

It's already been said, but look around and try to find what you like best. You can do a Yahoo or Google search for something like 'Star Trek Role-Playing' or 'Star Trek RPG', etc and find tons of sites. Now for my own plug. Federation Space is a Star Trek RPG set 37 years after Voyager's return to the Alpha Quadrant. We're a play-by-post site with pro-hosting and pro-forum software which means no popups, no banner ads, no advertisements. Players increase rank through a point system based on posts, allowing EVERYONE a fair chance at rank increases and chances to command regardless of past RPG experience. Our Academy will give you a chance to post with fellow Cadets and an Instructor who will teach you our formatting, rules and how to navigate the site. We have tons of content, some written specifically for our site, some taken directly from Trek canon. We offer our own Federation Space email addresses for all players and an open-topic area for general chat and non-Star Trek related discussion. We are a community of over 130 players, fans and friends and we're always looking for more members. We're currently in our 7th year. We currently have openings in Tactical, Engineering, Science, Medical and Security. We have also just launched our 10th full-time Starship. Come take a look! http://www.federationspace-rpg.com & http://www.federationspace-rpg.net

I'd personally recommend the Star Trek Simulation Forum (http://www.stsf.net) to any beginning role-player. They have a very in-depth academy system going, as well as a wide selection of very active live simulations.

Hmn, i recommend the USS Discovery of course because thats my active sim. But if you want training i recommend Tango Fleet or even Obsidian. Both have good training teams for the most part and a helpfull team of staff.
