I believe both NPC and PC distress calls should be allowed. PC distress calls should be more XP than NPC distress call and you should get disrepute for not answering the distress call.

I dont think a distress call should be allowed from a PC until their ship is badly damaged. The fact is you will have some PCs out there that will give a distress call for no reason, just to see another ship jump to their call. That is not right to me. This would need checks and balances to allow PCs to do this to others.

I agree- especially if it will give extra exp- I can see a guild exp farming with 2 ships- one always giving them a distress call, the other getting the bonus exp.

There are probably going to be many instances where your ship is outnumbered or overpowered by the opposition. I would say the ability for players to broadcast a distress signal is essential.

sorry for not reading all the posts but had an idea and wanted to write it down beore i lost it.
If someone or somthing sends out a DS then there is verious range of avalibility so you are various times away from ds
closet ship senario you are the closet ship in all distances DS is 5 minutes away big penelty for not answering DS is 30 minutes away DS is 1 hour away DS is 6 hours away DS is 12 hours away DS is 24 hours away DS is A few days away Big reward
so if you are close you get dinged bad but on the other hand if it is way out of your way and you answer it you get big bonus for doing it. of course the middle ground is hard to judge
DS would be dire need for help if you are wondering about symantics

on another note about the exploiting DS calls from player ships
If you get your ship intentionally involved in DS situtation in a short time frame you get dinged for putting the ship and crew in danger and have that ship investaged for exploites and striped of the captians chair.
Any captian intentionaly going DS all the time is just bad staffing
Formula one RACING car 5million to make you wouldnt give it to a driver that makes the thing into a Burning wreck every time they get in that captains seat, sure they drive fast but the car never never survives.
I forgot to think about the fact that this will be a war time event so DS will be common place occurence maybe make it mostly AI DS and have a seperate PDS Player Distress Call - no bonus but you split the prestage in half for finishing
so
you go do a mission then you get hammered and your ship is burning wreck and you PDS is called and your buddy answers it you split the total prestaige
so if you cant do the mission and need help the normal reward is devided in half.
same thing for DS AI called DS and you come and cant handle it and you become wrecked andother buddy comes to help and you and your buddy split the standard Prestage.

1. Do you break the neutral zone treaty 2. Do you ignore the plea for help 3. OR do you rush in and torpedo the freighter before the klingons can take captives |
Engage your warp drive and get a fix on the klingon ships. While in warp speeps, eject a few escape pods and hold them inside your warp bubble with the tractors. Drop out of warp right in front of the klingon fleet and instantly release the pods at the klingons. If done correctly you would essentially be throwing a large chunk of metel at the enemy ships at multiple times the speed of light. I doubt that anything could survive a hit from something like that. Finish your mission by beaming the folks off the ship in distress, and haul ### for your own side of the border. LOL or... just find a reason not to help Spock- "mr. scott, I understand you are having trouble with the warp drive" Scotty- "There's nothing wrong with the bloody thing!" Spock- "mr. scott..."

As i plan on become the doc of one of the smaller starships, i be role playing to the hilt, being my duty to help those in need. On the other hand, if the capt a little to fool hardy, i be wanting to send a report to star fleet.
