What do you think? Personally i think the PS3 is going to fail miserably because of it's high price.
Please elaborate your answer.

I think it will fail.
I admit I was a die hard Sony fan. I had the Playstation 1 and 2, then my friend got an XBOX and I saw how much better it was in terms of everything. I then switched to XBOX from the Playstation and at Christmas I got a XBOX 360. In terms of features, games, and in well..really everything the quality if overall better.
Sony will probably copy Microsoft in terms of thier online gaming support and downloads and not offer anything new.
I also think that the price will be too expensive, Microsfot will then drop the price of the 360 and everyone will buy one of them

i think it will be slow but catch up. sony has made a few dumb moves but the ps3 is still a very good system, it can do soo much and can out perform eveything else, it also has some really good launch titles like MGS4. people are complaining that $600 is alot of money, since when? when people buy a new computer they pay in excess of $1000 and the ps3 will out perform pcs when it comes out.

When people buy computers they buy it for more than just playing video games, you know that right?  How does a PS3 outperform a PC in word processing?  video editing?  programming?  photo editing?  spreadsheets?  need I go on?

Honestly, despite getting a large chunk of games I want the PS3 is simply too expensive. Sony is going to learn the hard way that they need to stop over charging their systems.

I'm getting a Nintendo revoloution/Wii when it comes out, as for Xbox or Xbox360 I have yet to see ANYTHING on it I even remotely like.

it out performs on that when you install linux on it. also the ps3 will have a longer system life because of its power they can keep making games for it longer than the 360. yes its expensive but you are getting alot and the price although high is justifiable. the first blu-ray player is $1000 USD and the ps3 does that and so much more, so yeah its still a bargain when you look at the big picture.

Here's my take, by commenting on the poll options...

Quote
It will have a slow start but will be able to hold Sony's lead

I find this the most likely option. Many gamers will balk at the $600 price, but many will buy after a the price drop and a good number will still buy it when it first comes out. I know I will.

It will help blue ray in becoming the DVD standard.

Everyone is going to buy a Wii!

 That's a good one! Wii will take the same place as it's predecessor, the GameCube... last.

PS3 will be a major failure

Impossible.

my sentements exactly, the ps3 isnt doomed to be a dreamcast, and i think nintendo is still kidding themselves about the home console market. people dont buy happy go lucky fanily consoles, they buy performance rigs that have the biggest loudest and goreiest first person shooters, sorry guys but thats not what the wii is about, and yes i know about that game where you control the guns with the motoin sensor, but from what ive seen its a little buggy and un natural, light guns are still better than that.

How much are they going to be? I mean from what I heard there are going to be like $600.00 or so, no biggie. And it looks like its going to be one heck of a system.

Like I said above, I've seen $1,700 for just a video card.

Not to mention that PC gaming seems to be on the decline. In the past 5 years, money made on PC games had decreased while money made on console games have increased. Also, many software companies seem to be concentrating more on console games rather than PC games. It's cheaper to do so. If they make a game for, say, the Xbox 360, then they only have to make one standardized version, since all Xbox 360's have the same hardware. But if they make a game for the PC, they have to make sure it will run for several different versions of Windows, and since not everyone has the same hardware in their PCs, the company has to take a guess and try produce a game that the majority of PC owners can use. Not to mention that even after the game is released, the company has to spend yet more money working on and releasing patch files.

Right now, PC gaming has only two advantages... Multiplayer gaming (which isn't much of an advantage these days; consoles are quickly catching up), and mods (which may just be around the corner for consoles as well).
